I didn't mean to say that the Western lumberjack look isn't also considered manly or attractive here (I too have European heritage, complete with chest hair and confirm your findings), but that before that look entered awareness in Asia there had to have been some other standards for masculinity. Naturally those would still endure in some form, and it's likely that the current batch of K-poppers have some of that going on.
I know it's easy to lump pretty-boy K-poppers with J-poppers/kei, but basically there's nothing like ab-flauting short-hairstyled groups such as 2PM in Japan. Even the K-poppers who go a bit heavy on the makeup tend try for an "edgy" look over a pretty one (dudes with guyliner, black stud earrings, and forced scowly-expressions), which contrasts a bit with say...
