Man, it's so sad to open up the first page of this thread and see JongroGuro's comment there. Miss that guy.

Not sure how appropriate it is to be discussing the man's private affairs, and I don't see anything in the forum guidelines that says otherwise, but seeing as how it has become public knowledge through his own admission in other forums and other such arenas, suffice it to say that Grotto was the persona of the man in question.

The man was employed through the GEPIK program for a time, and was very active in online discussions for that group. Lots of corroborating evidence was provided there.

Hope I didn't offend anyone, thought mollyb was pointing to grotto in her bump on the thread. JongnoGuru is greatly missed by many. R.I.P. And Matthew S, and the author who jumped from a bldg in China, and the poor soul that died from burns in his apt fire. I hope wherever their souls may be now, that it's a better place.

Yes, I was talking about Grotto, but JongnoGuru was a good soul too. Sad.

Anyone make a guess at how long he would have been sentenced to?

I am guessing that he'd be out by now if he had of just swallowed his punishment.

It could of been the shame of it all that got to him. I mean what would your family and everyone think of you.

Crazy, crazy thing to do though. (Trying smuggling stuff of that nature into Canada)

I knew Grotto slightly (in person) from the GEPIK orientation. We and a slew of other people had just signed up with GEPIK. A bunch of those folks including Grotto, sat around in my hotel room drinking beer and just shooting the breeze. There was nothing in Grotto's demeanor or conversation to indicate anything dark in his life.

Much later, on-line, there were some nasty allegations that he was engaging in some very inappropriate behaviour with some of the girls that he taught. By that time, we had fallen out of touch, never having really become friends. At that same time, he was arguing a lot over the Internet on Dave's with a bunch of people over a lot of things. Contracts and what constituted a good or bad contract - mainly with "Homer." Other things with other people. I stayed out of it for the most part.

I was saddened to hear of his death and the circumstances surrounding it. Shocked as well. I really had no idea of what he had been up to.

The Guru, I knew a bit, but not in person. We exchanged a bunch of PM's some years back. Especially when Shawn died. We were both gutted over that. We PM'ed back and forth for a while and then our lives overtook us and we fell out of touch.

I was quite upset to hear of his death. A real loss to the forum and to those of us who appreciate witty, urbane, elegant humour. He is missed by more than a few.

I think it's important to note because he's been mentioned in this thread a few times, that Jongnoguru died in a motorcycle accident. Not suicide.

I know you guys who mentioned him knew that.....just wanted to clarify.

Yes, right. Thanks for clarifying that. I should have specified.
