I'm flying to China at the end of this month once I am finished my contract. I found flights to Beijing from both Incheon and Gimpo on the same day for the exact same price, same flight time etc.

I live near Seoul National University subway station line 2. Anyone who travels a lot here recommend which airport I should take? Which one is more convenient?

Gimpo is closer to you and a lot smaller and less crowded. Theoretically, it should be faster and easier for you.

However, we've only flown out of Gimpo for domestic flights, not international. So I'm not too sure how efficient their immigration process is.

there are other factors to consider.

are you just planning on sitting at your gate until the flight leaves? or do you want free wi-fi, a plethora of food choices, an ice rink, etc., because only one of these airports has all of this.

also, do you plan on using lounges? the lounges at icn are going to be nicer than those in gimpo as well.

Those things sounds nice, but I think I can do without them. I did not plan on using lounges on this trip. I was just going to sit in the regular airport chairs to wait for my flight and probably read/listen to music.

Gimpo started a route to Beijing in July 2011.

PS. Has anyone taken the new Airport rail line from Seoul Station (also Hongdae station has a connection) which goes to both Gimpo and Incheon? It says you can check in to your flight at the train stations, but I'm not sure about that.

I'm thinking of just taking line 2 subway to Youngdongpo gu office and transferring to subway line 5 to Gimpo airport.

I have flown out of Gimpo internationally a couple times to Japan and China. It's obviously quicker than going to Incheon from Seoul and it's much quicker to check-in, go through immigration and security as it's not as busy. As long as you aren't going to be spending HOURS there for some reason I would take the Gimpo flight over the Incheon flight, and especially for coming back into Korea.

I flew the Korean Air flight to Beijing this summer and it was very convenient leaving from Gimpo. There just aren't as many stores, restaurants, etc, as someone else mentioned.

you will save the 1 hour commute each way to incheon......gimpo is much more convenient especially since the ticket prices are the same.....subway line 9 express is very fast to gimpo......

I would go with Gimpo, it is closer to you. I have taken the AREX from Seoul station to Incheon several times before. I have never seen those check-in counters open in the train station.

if you use the check-in at Seoul Station, i think it's only for Korean Air and Asiana. also, i'm pretty sure it only applies to ICN, because i think you have to take the express train if you use it, and the express doesn't stop at Gimpo. i could be wrong on this, but i was on the AREX (commuter, non-express) a few days ago and that's what all the signs seemed to indicate.

if ur going to Gimpo from Seoul National University, your best bet is prolly to transfer at Dangsan and take the 9 express.
