England will probably sneak into the semis. It's inevitable isn't it?
Too close to call between the Irish and the Welsh. I guess we're the underdogs, but, yes it's gonna be won by a small margin. Looking forward to it! |

What a great year. Steinlager is being sold at Homeplus for the the first time, all grades of the Warriors club made it to the Grand Final, Canterbury won the NPC (or whatever the newish name is), and Star Sports is showing the Rugby World Cup live. Can't ask for anything better.
My wife hates me. But I don't care. And guess what? There is a league test in 2 weeks, followed by the 4 nations. All live (ish) on my computer.
Now, she won't kick me out, but it's pretty hostile at the moment. It's not very often that all great things fall into place , with great kiwi beer as a bonus.
Anyway, after viewing all W.C games, I still see the Ockers as a big threat. Naturally, I'm a Deans fan, being rednblack and all. I really do think they will beat the Saffas. I love Irish rugby, so Wales to go down. The Poms to beat an ordinary French team, and naturally, the Blacks to do it by 14+.
(edit) Sorry Boys, STEINLAGER at Homepluus, not E.Mart. (my son in law bought 2 or 5 dozen for me) |

Yeah, RWC has been a blast. 3 games on Sat and 3 on Sun. Whaahoooo. This week 2for.
My local Homeplus has Montieths Golden Larger. Stienies good though. Bit harsh if you have too much.
Told my wife its a cultural thing and back home she would be classed as a rugby widow. I thanked her for being so understanding, he he. |

Old Fat!
My son-in -law mentioned this Golden Larger was also on sale at Home Plus. I used to drink a few Moniteths back home about 3 or so decades ago. A black one if I remember. Not too bad. How's the Golden taste? |

| Interesting selections from the teams involved in QF. Flood and Wilko together for England, Hook dropped by Wales, and SBW on the wing for NZ. I haven't made up my mind about SBW yet. He's been impressive in a team that has been completely dominant so far. How will he fare against the big boys? |

RE: Montieths Golden. Very drinkable. Starts with a citrus tone and ends with complex hops. Apparently won the WCSoccer beer contest-for what that's worth. I am also rather fond of Fuller's London Ale (also available at my Homeplus). Decent beer and rugby = huge quality of life improvement.
SBW- I get the sense he is capable of big plays, but in a tight game seems just as likely to turn over the ball with his 50-50s. Exciting guy to watch, but forces too much and often too early. Works with the not so goods, will be punished by the big boys. I understand why Henry brings him on once there is a comfortable pad.
My pics: NZ by 20+. England by 10. SA but close. Wales by 7. |

I'm girding myself for an early return home for the Boks.
They are torn between two different styles of play. They start well but after a while the confusion kicks in and they can only hang in, putting fires out.
They are also not as well conditioned as their opposition, especially Wales, Ireland and AB's.
It's a real pity, b/c to win the WC makes you Champion for 4 years in a row. It doesn't matter how bad the performance in the intervening 4 years, you get agreeably stuck with the title.
Sooner or later, people are going to start twigging that the World Cup is not what it appears, or purports to mean.
Unless you win, of course. Then it's everything. |

| The Wales-Ireland match should be a great one today, and of course South Africa-Australia tomorrow, although I suspect that the Aussies might beat us but even so I hope it's a close one. All in all a pretty good weekend with four games worth watching coming up. |

| England got as far as they deserved to today. They were poor throughout the tournament. Hats off to the French because they played some good rugby. Wales-France could be a belter. |

England blew so many chances versus France, which deserves to go to the semifinals vs. an impressive Wales team.
NZ should beat Argentina but faces the winner of the SA-Australia game. Hopefully the All Blacks take the crown this time. |

| The All Blacks have had a fairly easy tournament this time. They should beat Argentina quite comfortably today by at least 20 points. I want Australia to win, but I think they will be outmuscled at the breakdown and set pieces by the Bok pack, so SA by 7 points. Right now I think SA are the only team who might be able to beat the ABs, so NZ is probably rooting for the Aussies. |

couple of great games today, the Pumas gave the All Blacks a heck of a game the final score doesnt indicate how close that game was until the 65th minute or so.
Still not sure about the SA-Aus game why was that SA try called back?
Only problem was getting a good stream, damm Star Sports for not carrying the knockout rounds |

I was thinking the ABs would dominate against Argentina but the latter held its own for awhile before letting the game slip away in the last 20 minutes.
I really wish NZ would play Australia in the final (and gosh, imagine the disgust of the kiwi faithful if the Wallabies won the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand) but oh well, perhaps the best game of the tournament will be the NZ-Australia semifinal. And who knows, France could act as spoilers in the final if it gets past Wales. |
