Oh yes... I remember seeing something like a "fat tax" referenced in cracked once but never read up on it.
America should adopt that. They already do it with airliners which is a great idea. |

| What I find interesting is that even the slightest overweight first appears on their head. Regardless of their age, the chubby ones have morbidly big head. I'm talking about guys now. Seriously, I've yet to to see a larger korean male with small or normal head size. |

that makes no logical sense, but now that I think about it, of all the fat Korean guys I know, you are absolutely right.
Will scan entire student body for this next week |

If that happened, america would be on the road to recovery regarding their finances lol |

yes, they are. i was first here in 96 and the only people in TGIF were g.i.s and a few k-families.
i was in costco for the first time yesterday (i know i know) and good lord, they were buying up them big pizzas, calzones, and sucking down those 1000/2000 coffees. make no mistake: young and younger Korean families like the American way.
The influence America has had on Korea is immense, but that was to be seen.
Now, Im not sure we want to get rid of those confucian norms. They do have alot of good benefits keepin the locals in line. hmmm |

It is a known fact that childhood obesity in Korea has increased dramatically over the past few years. The government were talking about implementing a scheme to give fat kids tokens to use in sports centres and swimming pools, and also to open new clubs and activity parks etc. I remember reading about that a 2-3 years ago, but I'm not sure what has happened since.
I'm not surprised at the number of tubby children, because there seems to be no-one monitoring their eating habits. The school I work in has a snack shop that sells nothing of nutritional value, so the kids load up on sugary, salty snacks during the day. The parents seem to exert little influence over their diet, and the general ignorance of diet and nutrition here is clearly an issue that should be addressed.
Korea needs to look at the USA and the UK to see what could happen. |

| Eh, it is their health, it is their country, and it is their choice. They say the same things about Americans all the time and assume all Americans are fat.....I went out to eat a few days ago and the woman owner commented to my husband in Korean that I was much heavier then the last time she saw me months ago ( I was beyond shocked she remembered me so ....but Im probably the only white girl that has eaten there) after which my husband cooly told her that I wasnt fatter I am actually pregnant...but it doesnt surprise me that instead of considering pregnant as an option, they just assume foreigners could never be that and are just fat...altho 5'5 and 135 with baby is not even fat and the last thing any pregnant woman, regardless of nationality, wants is a.complete stranger telling her she is heavy... |

The same they do with everyother conscript. If you're too fat, you can be exempt from conscription but you have to be like really, really fat. I've seen plenty of fat kids during my time. Some of them even cry during basic and basic training for me was pretty easy. Some of them barely make it through a 2km jog. Some of them get depressed because of the limited portions they're allowed to eat. |
