I taught in Korea in 2007-08. I would love to teach there again. I have been hesitant to send my FBI CBC because I have only one arrest it was when I was 19. That happened 26 years ago for possession of marijuana. I am clean now. I was wondering if anyone has any information if the Korean Immigration would issue a E-2 visa to me. |

There's only one way to find out, order the check. |

Get the check done.
If it is there, look at China or Taiwan.
If it is clean you can try to get back to Korea (tough market and not likely to change in the next 6 months).

For the most part....no visa.
But....it all depends on what kind of day the immigration person is having!
I know of two people who have DUI's....paid the fines, etc... and are teaching legally in korea.
Another person had 1 DUI and was denied a visa.
One of our teachers has a 30 year old "weed" charge. First time around..he got the visa. Came up for renewal/changed jobs and he was denied. Go figure!
All are U.S. citizens.
You are at the whim of the person looking at your paperwork at the time....
you have nothing to loose by applying.
And as previous posted...China/Taiwan are good choices.
Especially China! What a fun place to work in! |

I stand corrected (wrong list of countries in my previous post):
China, Japan, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Burma, Thailand. You can get a visa (use an out of state check to get past the positive finding).
Rule out Taiwan, Korea, Vietnam and depending on where you get your visa from (consulate in the US or SE Asia) Thailand is a maybe.
You have NO chance in Korea with a positive finding for a previous drug comment, arrest, conviction.
There is no appeal and Kimmi is not likely to change policy any time soon (especially with the current flood of US economic refugees trying to get over here - they have lots of warm bodies to choose from.)
