I'm getting my documents ready and I have a question.

Does the Criminal Background check have to be taken to a solicitor's to be certified like the copy of the university diploma or can it be sent to be apostilled without it?

Basically, is the CRB check already certified or 'notarised' once it arrives back from the Gardai or does a solicitor have to do this?

Nope it doesn't need to be notorised at a solicitors etc, the superintendents signature on it is enough. It does need to be appostilled in the dept. of foreign affairs the same as your degree.

one bit of advice. Ring the garda office to confirm that they have received your application for the police cert. I sent mine into my local office to be forwarded onto the district office. I rang them about a month later and they never received my documents. I did this twice before my football manger, who is a gard got it done for me in a day as he knew someone in the office.

Yeah, I went to the Garda station personally to fill out the application form.

hi,

i am also Irish and have just been offered a position in Korea. At the moment i am trying to come to terms with the visa process. what doesn't help is that i have been in China for the last few years. I would welcome any advice on how to obtain the necessary documents.

Candyteacher, are you sure you can skip the notarization process and bring the Police Cert stright to the Dept.of Foreign Affairs to be appostiled?

If anyone else can confirm this, or provide a link proving this to be the case then please do so.

I can confirm that the only thing that I got notarized was the copy of the degree diploma. The police check only needed to be apostiled as it was deemed an original, and therefore had no need for notarization.

This was done only a couple of months ago.

Notarizing is to prove the document is an authentic representation of the original, for the visa they require the orginal so no need to notarize just Apostille. Thats what i did six months ago.
