| Sad. Political ideology of both sides takes precedent over children's lives. |

Not giving money to someone who is attacking you isn't ideology so much as it is anti-bully. |

When KJI finally says "Let them eat cake", the parents will realize what must be done. And I'm sure if North Korea offered to pull their military back from the 38th in exchange for aid, they'd be swimming in it in no time. |

North Korea is well past the "Let them eat cake stage". The people are just too brainwashed or powerless to do anything about it.
In your aid scenario, the Norks would pull back, get the cash, and then the next day send the troops back to the front and lob some shells for good measure. |

I'm certainly no expert on the north but just from a cursory view of things it seems the leader there takes care of the military so the people can't revolt because they are powerless. Maybe it is so but I can't believe the masses believe that America and SK are the reasons for their plight. Too many try and escape to China or defect for me to believe that.
The video was heartbreaking though. Whatever the reasons its a very sad state of affairs. |

It's actually shocking how few do try to defect though. Having read Nothing to Envy and Under the Care of the Fatherly Leader, my impression is that a good chunk of the population really is that brainwashed. |

| The thing is most people simply are not aware of there being anything better outside of North Korea. |

But dividing Korea into two countries was certainly done due to political ideology. And then setting up a puppet military regimes in the south and north was also done due to political ideology. |

You're right. We shouldn't have given the South the opportunity to achieve what they have over the past sixty years. They would have been much better off under Chinese / Russian influence. Or were you advocating all out war with Russia over the peninsula?
After seeing the video it makes me really want to give the ruling elite a thousand dollars so I can maybe see the suffering for myself as a tourist. If not the starving children I'd at least be able to see some really cool architecture. I hear the have very impressive subway stations.
I know my paltry grand wouldn't make a big difference in the grand scheme of things. I doubt it equates into even a full day of additional suffering. Probably only a few hours. A | |
