|
|
Instead of lugging a treasure chest of books around, I've decided to purchase an ebook reader. Nothing snazzy, nothing complicated as I just want to read books.
I've checked out HiMart and a few other electronics stores, and have yet to see an actual ebook reader such as a Nook. I know Gmarket sells (pricey) Kindles, but I would like to check out other options too before deciding.
So, has anyone seen ebook readers for sale in an actual shop here, and if so, where? I will be more than delighted to thank you if you let me know. |

the bookstores (kyobo, bandi-lunis, etc..) will have iRiver or Samsung eReaders. None of them are as nice as the Kindle or Nook though. |

I just saw the IRiver HD something-or-other in the stores here in Ireland. Very impressive. They also have a landscape version e-reader, for reading with one hand...useful for the subway I imagine.
Why would you dismiss the IRiver versus Kindle/Nook? |

Thanks for the replies, it looks like I might just order a Kindle from gmarket and be done with it then (I see gmarket has Nooks too, but the screen/ease of reading seems better on the Kindle).
I am concerned about the logistics of it all, the uploading books to the Kindle part, especially books that have have been nabbed from torrent sites. It's all very confusing for my little brain. |

Gmarket has Nooks from 192'000won for the wifi, black and white version. They are imported, so not likely to be found in stores. |

I got my Sony PRS-350 3 years ago from Amazon. I don't see the T1's available for Int'l shipping yet and the ones on ebay are just expensive enough that I'd get nailed with duty taxes. I've seen other ebook readers and even without the touch-screen, my 350 is the best one I've seen... due to it's aluminum case. Unfortunately Sony doesn't support Asian character sets (weird)... that's something to consider...
If you need Korean, go with the iRiver... if not, you can import anything under 150,000won with no taxes added... Ebay is waaaay cheaper than buying local. |

Order one from Amazon.
If you order directly (without a friend sending it to you), you have to use this link for the "International Kindle", which can be shipped here by Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0051QVF7A?country=KR
Cost is $109, plus shipping. Be careful, though. If you choose high shipping, the total+shipping may exceed 150,000 won, which will cause a trigger that forces you to pay duties.
Please note that books will cost you a few dollars more per book to buy than if you have a non-International version. Yes, it's overall a much better deal if you have a buddy/family member ship you a non-international version directly.
The non-international version still works in Korea, but you actually pay less per book. |
