which part of the contract are you breaking?
and also, for whoever said gang rape is tame... i've never ever heard of groups of elementary students committing gang rape in the states.
this isn't just a single occurrence, apparently this happens frequently. there are even cases of high school students pimping other students out, and the weird part is that the pimps aren't even male students, they are female. |

Although i'm looking at an old contract online:

Article 17:section 1,4 or 5 - take your pick!

I know this is an EPIK contract but i'm sure SMOE or whatever else have a similar clause! I know the new EPIK contract has identical clauses to these in this instance....... |

i just read it. that's kind of reaching.... mollybloom did not disclose any personal information. she didn't even name her district, just the region (SW region of seoul.)
anyone could find out about this if it ends up being reported in the news. |

Well she did really! I know Seoul is a HUGE place, but i'm sure not too many people get arrested for rape (in these circumstances) that often.....
To do something like this in the UK would be MORE than enough to get fired! |

Ok- fine she didn't break her contract, but she broke her 'moral code' as a teacher!

That story about the guy in college is disgusting. There really needs to be more awareness and support groups about rape and sexual abuse here. However, ever since "The Crucible" came out, I've read/heard more people talking about it.
Anyway, does anyone know off-hand the names of groups that support sexual abuse/assault in different cities of Korea? I can't say I know of any. |

It seems that movie has had a positive impact.

Though the officials seem to contradict themselves at times regarding the exact punishments for past sex offenders. |

I think to a lot of us who have been here for a few years we find this kind of behavior strange for this society but acceptable in ours.
but the fact is when you actually compare it to our culture it is still VERY TAME. I mean come on I don't need to tell you guys what went on in our towns when we were 14 years old.. |
Gang rape is tame? |
I wasn't referring to GANG Rape! GANG RAPE IS A CRIMINAL OFFENCE! if convicted these children will be going to juvenile prison. As they should,
I am wondering if this girl was actually tied up, gagged beaten and raped by a few boys who have just turned 14 years old !
how come this hasn't hit the news? come on.. teenage boys gang rape a girl? should be all over the news... or am I not tuning in the right channel?
or the mother wants to keep it quiet?
I am not doubting it didn't happen, I am sure it did, I know Korean kids are punks.. I just want to know how raped was she! |

Oh, and a few weeks ago the social worker at our school visited a 3rd grade girl's house. The student was not home (it was night time) and the social worker asked her mother where she was. The mother said every night her daughter goes to the DVD bang to have sex. She also "gives her money" before she goes out, whatever the hell that means. So, her mother knows AND financially supports what she is doing, and doesn't really seem to care. So messed up.
It's so weird to go from teaching elementary school, in Gangnam, no less, to teaching where I do now. The most "sexual" the kids would ever get is talking about dongchims, which isn't sexual at all. Now I'm dealing with all the stuff in middle school. They sure do grow up fast. On other other hand, I have students that have girl/boy friends and want to puke if a friend teases them about kissing and won't even hold hands because of the fear of "skinship." You get these extremes that are rather jolting at times. |
I've read a few of your posts in the past - and you seem like a nice, decent person!
I can kind of understand why you would feel the need to express your thoughts about this - but a public internet forum is not the place to do it!
This isn't about loving or hating korea/Koreans ect it's about professional standards!
Speaking about - something that could be quite easily be traced back to a specific school and specific children is just plain WRONG!
And for what it's worth I agree that the 'punishment' for sexual crimes in Korea are a joke! |
a "public internet forum" is probably the BEST place to discuss this. the OP didn't name her institution, herself, or anyone else. by posting this story, the OP is raising awareness about something we should all be in the know about.
i find your use of exclamation marks at the end of every sentence far more obnoxious than anything else in this thread. |

i worked in a boys high school for 2 years. i love the boys to death. there was one who was really muscular and tough, but i caught him giving a peck on the lips to another less...strong boy, in class no less, then he turned to see if I saw it. I did, but I didnt do anything. I did go to him afterwards, and put my hand on his shoulder. Afterwards sometimes, I gave him a I know look, but I didnt pass judgement.
quite a few of my boys would have japanopronz on their pmp, and theyd check my pmp to see if I did too
I did find two boys hugging at a school where I go running at night, like 9:30.
oh, and one of those boys from the school...he didnt speak English very well, but was very confident and socailable, he'd ask me every class about masturbation or American girls or whatever. He actuall went out and dated some girls, and when he lost his virginity, he came to me the next day as proud as a papa. I just told him to be careful and not make a baby.
yea, Korean students is going the way of Japanese students. Difference is, this is a MUCH MORE repressed society. oh well.. |

I don't know about your school, but at my school these kids hug each other all the time. I saw two male coworkers walk off hand-in-hand into the night. How is this hugging different from the typical skinship
Also, I like how they blame porno. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the kid's parents or anything. Had to have been the porno's fault. |

| About the gang rape thing, it's never a wise idea being the only female alone with a bunch a guys, especially drunk guys. Not blaming the girl, but girls should be aware of possible situations that may get them in doo-doo. |

I think it's quite common here. There was an "incident" at the middle school I worked at years ago that no one would tell me the details about involving 4-5 male students and one girl. It's kept quiet out of shame.
How raped was she? Raped enough that they couldn't just blow it off as no big deal, as they would MUCH prefer to do. The boys were not arrested at my school as far as I know, but they were forced to drop out. I was told they cannot expel students, but they can put pressure (shame) on the parents to withdraw them. |

Very often it's the blood money that keeps everything quiet. If blood money is accepted, it's understood the victims family will not pursue the matter further. But socially there is extreme pressure for victimized girl's families to accept blood money. It's slowly changing but to us westerners it seems too slow.

Often they will be sent to a very rural school. There are also schools throughout Korea for 'problem' students. |
