| It was a general point, obviously, which you seem to agree with. |

It's an 8MP camera, many Android models already have 8MP cameras.
I fail to see how that makes the iPhone 4S camera any better than the camera on a GS2. |
i fail to see how your statement makes any sense.
it is one of the most common misconceptions when it comes to camera optics. megapixels have almost NO bearing on image quality. the size of the sensor, how effective that sensor is at translating light into an image, the iso ratings, the quality of the glass of the lens (or for most camera phones, the plastic) are the main qualities. megapixels are simply how many pixels can be taken at one time. it is very possible to have jaw dropping images with a very low megapixel camera.
please do not perpetuate the-more-megapixels-the-better myth.
that said, the galaxy sII has an astounding camera and so does the iphone 4g. however from insiders who have played with the camera module on the 4gs, it does appear to be a order of magnitude better than anything else out there save for some nokias and japanese-only handsets. |

Apparently the chip in the new iPhone, that one in the ipad 2, outdoes the 1.2ghz chip in the Galaxy SII. I didn't do the tests so that's why I state "apparently"...
The App store on the Iphone is still ahead of that on the Android. The operating system, well that's evening out, we'll see when ios 5 and ice cream sandwich comes out which one trumps with...
There is a lot of hate for iPhones just because yuppies buy them without getting the full use out of the hardware... or not looking at other cheaper options that would more than fulfil their needs.
Regarding some of the pros and cons.
Expandable memory would be nice but isn't really required.
A removable battery would be useful again but it's not really needed, you can get those dual battery cases for them if you're badly stuck, but it has probably the best battery of the high end smart phones as it is.
LTE means nothing to me because I'm from Ireland we probably won't get that technology till 2056...
Despite what may read as a staunch defence of Apple. I don't like Macs and would never piss away my money on them... but the iPhone is a decent bit of kit, it's my GPS, my mp3 player, a usb, my camera and my phone. So paying the price I did for it, justifies it for me. Any niggling things about it that other phones had, I could find by jailbreaking it and adding stuff from there. |

Let's just let the reliable reviewers do their iPhone 4S vs Galaxy S2 articles.
But I can kind of guess what most of them will conclude...that the 4S is a competent phone with all the features that most people want.......but not all the features which the current crop of smartphones do have......plus it was released 6 months after phones like the GS2.
Wishfulthinking, I don't think you can write off the importance of the mega-pixel number too much. A photo taken with a low MP camera, 2-3 MP let's say, will probably look pixelated if you want to blow it up to A4 for printing......you're right of course that in the early days of digital cameras the MP count was too much focused on.....but after about 5 MP it became more insignificant.
The MP point for our discussion is not important as both the 4S and GS2 have 8MP.....more than enough......so it will be down to the quality of the optics and the variables of settings and conditions.
I found this article which goes over some of the 'wins' and 'losses' of both phones......
http://nvonews.com/2011/10/06/iphone-4s-vs-samsung-galaxy-s2-samsung-says-it-has-best-phone/
but I found the user comments below more interesting. They're an interesting mix of why people are sticking with their iPhone or android phone or why they're changing. I think it shows the different priorities people have about their smartphone and why it's great that we have such good competition in the smartphone arena. |

Released much later than the S2, but not in the most important market - the U.S. |

aye. i'm well aware of this. but anything more than 3mp for an average consumer is overkill. even 3mp can be considered too much for anyone who doesn't deal with print. my only point was to try and dispel the megapixel myth. if people weren't so focused on it maybe the quality of optics would have been the focus for all these years instead of mp count. good thing the big players are finally starting to really working on image quality now. |

No Flash, no SD card slot, no .avi codec, no freedom to customise.
No thanks. |
My iphone is as custom as any other phone, it's called 'Jailbreaking' NOOB. And who cares about avi, it takes 2 minutes to convert a movie to MP4 or quicktime. And flash? Hahaha flash is garbage. |

I jailbroke my wife's iphone a while ago actually. It makes it marginally less crap, admittedly. |

Which is exactly why I wouldn't pre-order an Apple phone. Wait for the reviews. The I-phone 4 has an excellent camera. Who knows what will be in the 4S? They pulled that same crap with the I-pad. Higher megapixels, but crappy camera by comparison. Leaves them an upgrade path. |

| Get CineXPlayer for iPhone and you can play AVI files without converting them. Super easy to use and supports subtitle files as well. |

| I'm about to upgrade my iphone to either a 4 or 4s, I know the 4s has the world mode but not sure how that will play into things when I get to Korea. Am I insane even considering using my ATT service in Korea? Will it just be too costly? OR is there an international feature I can add to make it affordable? |
