| I guess my point is it seemed like your were using the words 전세 and 보증금 interchangeably in your first post. |

| In this current market, I doubt you'll be able to adjust your monthly with more deposit. To do that, you typically need to add another 10 million deposit to lower your monthly pay by 100,000 won. Even still, most landlords are in it for higher rent money these days. |
What are rents and deposits running in Seoul these days? |

That kind of depends on many factors. |

In Gangnam, last I checked it was about 10 million deposit and 700,000 a month for a one room, 13 pyeong.
In North, North Seoul (around Suyu stn), I saw the same size places for 3 million deposit and 400,000 a month.
Hongdae and Shinchon one-rooms are about the same price as Gangnam.
Cheaper options can be had in Itaewon but the units are quite a bit older and tend to be far from the subway stations.
From what I have seen recently, the owners all want higher rent because the interest rate is low.
They have another kind of system that is short term (단기임대). It is one month's rent for deposit and many times will be fully furnished. But those are quite expensive. I saw some in Gangnam from 800,000 per month to 1.5 million per month. |

| Tom is right: as a newbie I would advise you take the school provided housing, get to know the area you live in, pick places you like, shop around and then find your own place. |
