Expensive places where your child gets sick often. My kids are staying at home. I'm not going to expose my kids to that.

Gosh... considering this forum is about schools and teachers, this topic seems blank.

How many teachers do you think are actually teaching pre-school here?

Quite a few, considering the proliferation of kindergartens.

It would be interesting to see the break down, but I think most teachers (the vast majority) are teaching at public schools and hagwons.

Adult academies and privates would be next.

From what I've heard, most pre-schools are taught by Koreans or Filipinos.

But I'm not totally sure about this.

Both of our kids attended or are attending daycares and pre-schools. They got sick sometimes but that is just NORMAL for a kid and in fact its not a bad thing at all. We are not talking about sending your kids to work the salt mines in unsanitary health conditions here! Laughing

Can`t keep our kids in a bubble, getting the sniffles or the odd stomach flu is pretty darn normal for kids and part of developing a healthy immune system. The other issue I have with keeping kids at home (this applies more to back here in Canada) is socializing. Most kids attend daycares nowadays...

What parents want to expose their children to is entirely their own business. Socialization is a good benefit of daycare. Children getting sick is normal. I just think that if a parent has the ability to reduce the number of times their child gets sick, why not?

I disagree about the point made that children getting sick is not a bad thing. Taking care of a sick child sucks, and if you have a sick child and you still think it's not bad; I suggest asking a kid what they think about being sick. I bet they tell you they don't like it.

But as I said, what parents want to expose their kids to is entirely their own business. My kids feel fine, and that's the way I like it.

These are two different things Stan...

Taking care of a sick child is no fun. I agree.

A child catching the sniffles or a stomach flu at the daycare may not be that bad for his immune system.

No one LIKES being sick but there are studies coming out saying that kids who are over-protected from germs and normal diseases end up with health issues when they get older. These studies are saying that the immune system needs a "workout" of sorts when it is still developping so the proper anti-bodies are produced.

No one is going to willingly expose their kids to serious diseases but the mundane kid diseases are not a bad thing. For example, our son caught 2 stomach flus (one of which he gave to me..oh joy) his first fall at the daycare in Busan. The next year, he caught nothing when stomach flu season rolled around.

Anyway, to each his own and daycares certainly remain a personal parental decision. Very Happy
