|

Ill try to keep it brief.
My school have asked me to stay on next year. I accepted on the condition that they allow me to take an extra weeks holiday over christmas (2 weeks total).
I asked my director to call Immi. to ask if there would be any paper work and he said they are asking for a CRB and degree cert - both apostiled.
Surely that cannot be right?
It will be a new contract, granted but that is a formality. I am staying at the same school so I wont require an new ARC card or E2 (as far as Im aware). I think the person who said this at immi may not have known the craic.
Any advice on this would be very helpful.
Thankyou |

Well it depends. Is this your first contract with the school or not? When is the renewal to be done? Are you going to finish the contract and leave and come back and try for a visa trip? Also reading your post the problem is you had your boss ask immigration. Your boss no offense likely does not know the process and rules of immigration very well. So when he asked immigration they gave them likely their basic new E-2 teacher stock answer. You will have to take the bull by the horns and help your boss out with the process. The more you help yourself the less likely things will screw up.
You can very likely extend for another year but immigration is being kind and yet strict. They want both Degree and CRC checked. Now if you had your degree checked (apostilled/consulate verified) before hand and used for an E-2 your chances of needing a new one is less. As to the CRC. When you first started your current job what kind of CRC did you have, State,City or National. If you had a national you are rocking, but if you had state or city or province then you will likely have troubles. Now immi is being a little kind for this year if you renew with a school they will let the CRC check slide till next time when it should be National. Still do not quote me on that.
Overall I do think you can renew with little trouble with the same school, but you might require a new National CRC in the future.
Treat CRCs and other paperwork like toothbrushes and passwords - get new ones every 6 months. |

thanks for that very concise reply.
Yeah, Im pretty much doing what you said and trying to get as much info as I possibly can to aid the process.
Its my first position here but last time (December) I transfered over to here without needing any new documentation from my old job (i changed jobs within 2 days). Immi accepted my prior evidence (ie police clearance) but the process has changed and they are now asking for degree cert.
Ill get on and get that done first then, just in case.
Thanks. |

No. I recently lost my last job that I tried to renew at because I thought the same thing. They did not let the crc slide. I don't know where this information comes from because it is completely wrong, and if you are American like me, you are going to have an even more difficult time with this.

Ya you might have used up your "Get out of jail card". Ouch on the two day hire and then transfer. Well get on the ball and order some new transcripts. Dig out your degree.
Also consider going in person to a local immi office and talking to somebody.
What country are you from? Maybe I can give some further help. |

cheers, Im from the UK.
Incidentally, do you think 'which' immi you go to makes a difference? Ive heard mixed reports about Seoul but Busans workers usually seem to be quite helpful... |

If your documents (CRC and COPY of your degree (not the original) were both submitted AND both had an apostille then someone may have been mistaken (or thought you were an American) when the inquiry was make (or worse and more common, your director never actually make the call).
to extend you will need:
ARC
passport
application
fee - 30k won
new contract
copy of the school's business registration
certificate of sponsorship (from the school)
AND if NOT already submitted:
COPY of your degree with an apostille
CRC with an apostille.
You may have got your first E2 with just a notary rather than an apostille and that may be why you need to resubmit (if indeed that is the case).

| ttompatz, thanks for the useful post. One additional question: do I need to submit a new medical check? I've submitted one last year (including the drug test). |
