I am just wondering of anyone has heard of Plus Academy (in Seoul). I have been offered a position there, and so far everything seems good as far as Hagwons go. I like the contract, location, pay. I did a search and the last post was from around 2005 and it was good. Anyway, if anyone has any info they could offer thay would be great. |

I was also recently offered a position at Plus Academy and have not had any luck finding reviews one way or the other. Were you placed through a recruiter?
Does anyone know anything about Plus Academy?! |

If it's the same place I am thinking of in Nowon, Plus Academy was my first teaching job in Korea in 2002.
That's a long time ago and it's probably a very different place to work than it was....but all in all there are worse places to work.
If it is the same place and you want to avoid putting up with b.s., stay off the director's radar. |

I worked at the gireum branch this past year, and we always got paid on time, the coworkers were friendly, and overall, I had a decent experience, despite some disorganization. I would recommend to try to get a position at Gireum or Changdong, as the employees at the main branch (Junggye) had to deal with more of the bureaucracy, where as the people at the other branches tended to be left alone a lot more. |

I too have been offered a contract with Plus and have had trouble finding anything about it through internet searches. Is it a case of no news is good news you think?
Incidentally, I found a blog that a couple wrote about their time there (a sort of day in the life of) and it was promising. |

I worked for the Changdong branch for PLUS Academy in 2009. I had a pretty bad experience, although seemingly typical for the hagwon standards. There were various advertising/marketing events that I was required to participate in (in addition to normal hours), they constantly "reviewed" staff by sitting in classes or taking pictures of "bad behavior" (there were cameras in the classrooms that they watched and took pictures of staff if they were slouching, for example), there were several meetings that you had to attend (outside of normal hours), there were some payment discrepancies on my way out, and finally, in general the vibe between Korean teachers and foreign teachers was pretty antagonistic and uncomfortable!!
Hope this helps anyone. |
