Does anyone know anything about how easy or difficult it is for Chinese, or Chinese-Korean students to obtain a student / tourist visa to enter Korea? |

It would probably be dependent upon the student's ability to pay the tuition. If he or she has been accepted to a school in Korea and can pay, the school should help him or her. |

There are plenty of Chinese students studying here... If you have the money and the test scores, a korean university will be willing to consider you... |

For Chinese Koreans it depends on if they can prove they are Korean.
If they can, they can come in pretty easily. The chicks at my school who teach Chinese are Chinese-Koreans...they speak both languages. They are 100% Korean blood, but were born and raised in China. Not sure if being mixed blood will sour the chances or what.
Again from what I heard it depends on the parents. As you know there are tons of Chinese-Koreans from the North Part (North Korea) living and working in China. These guys have the hardest time coming to Korea - according to my co-workers. |

Being in northern China, and having met many Chinese-Koreans, maybe I can add a few things.
Chinese-Koreans have a harder time getting a visa into Korea than Chinese Chinese. There is a greater temptation for Chinese-Koreans to stay in Korea after a visit.
Believe me, from where I stand, China is one ugly country. These people earn peanuts. Chinese-Koreans even less so. They have their little Korean restaurants and sell their bulgogi for less than TWO dollars Canadian or a bowl of galbi tang for less than ONE Canadian dollar.
The Chinese-Koreans I have met here would give their left eye to live and work in South Korea. |

You need to also understand the second largest ethnic group in China is Koreans. If they want too work in Korea, they are subject to all types of scrutiny by the National Security Service and the employer is also investigated by them. The upside for most employers is they pay them the basic 800,000 won per month and they must cover all their own expenses from that. They basically become the property of the employer, who will deduct all the expenses incurred in arranging their employment from their wages. In the long term they are still better off, than living in China. We employed a Chinese/Korean and that was what the director had to go through and when I asked him why, he casually explained that in the long term it costs him nothing and he can hire her out to other schools. We sometimes think that we are hard done by. |

>. On a related historical note, upon Japan invading Korea in 1910, a large number of Koreans fled to China. Yun byun & various border region towns is i guess where a lot of them live these days.
According to my students, while they read HANGUL newspapers etc, many now see themselves more as Chinese than Korean. |
