When I lived in Korea, I always thought it was dingy because I associated it with the Mos Eisley dirthole that Itaewon used to be.

Now I've heard that Itaewon has suffered a bit of a cleaning-up. Has the Hamilton as well? I've honestly never been inside a room there so I have no idea. My wife, daughter and I would be spending 3 nights there. I like the fact that (sh)Itaewon is fairly central, and our travel agent has offered a reasonable deal.

Any information is appreciated.

The IP Boutique Hotel is more expensive than Hamilton. The IPB Hotel is very nice though.

I agree with your opinion of Hamilton, for the price they charge, the rooms are crap.

I just stayed at the IP Boutique. It's nice, but honestly, given the price I'd rather stay at a nice love motel. The lobby is cool and everything, and the free internet is convenient, but for 200,000 a night the room was essentially what you get paying 80,000 for a motel in a less happening area. I don't feel like I made a mistake staying there, as I kind of expected this going in, but I probably wouldn't stay there again for any more than 125,000. At the price you're paying you can spend a fraction more and stay at a true five star (which I would have done had I booked sooner).

No one's holding a gun to your head forcing you to stay in Itaewon. If it's such a dirthole why even stay there???

Why not stay in Myeongdong, Jongro or near City Hall???? All of these areas have plenty of hotels in all price ranges and are centrally located.

I agree with that...Myeongdong for me has better value hotels than the Hamilton....have a look at

Metro Hotel (in particular) or IBIS hotel for Myongdong.

Dongdaemun has the Toyoko Inn....mostly Japanese stay there and it is very good value for money.

Both areas reasonably central.

I stayed at the Hamilton a few years back and other than the location, I was not impressed. The rooms were a bit run down with fading and threadbare carpeting. A sense of neglect about the place. It seemed to need some renovation within. For the room price, I thought it was a bit of a fail.

Maybe they've cleaned up their act over the intervening years?

Brilliant location if you want to be Itaewon-centered, but otherwise, I'd give it a miss and do what above posters have suggested. Head for cheaper and nicer hotels a bit away from central Itaewon in other centrally located areas.
