Well, first I should say that I hope there's a miracle and the flooding in Thailand just goes away, evaporates, whatever--I feel very sorry for the trouble people are experiencing there.

As for my plans, I'm flying from SK to Thailand in January. Air China changed the time of my connecting flight (there's a stopover in Beijing), so that there's only a 25-minute gap from one flight to the next, and I got a message from Travelocity telling me I had to call them immediately.

Well, that's turned out to be a real chore. Several phone calls to their international center--it's a 210 number, is this toll-free?--and still nothing is resolved.

What I find specifically frustrating is this: Travelocity customer support has told me Air China has offered a flight from SK to Beijing earlier in the day. It will mean a 6-hour layover, but being an easygoing person, I said "Sure, that's fine with me." But the Travelocity operators are claiming that they can't just set up the new flight, and send me a confirming e-mail. Rather, I have to be on the phone line *while* they discuss the matter with Air China.

Is this usual? It's difficult because Air China's offices are always closed when I call Travelocity, and the times Travelocity suggests for calling back are always awkward for me. It's all very frustrating.

At least they aren't making you deal with Air China directly. Smile I imagine they don't need you on the phone for any technical reason, but it's probably a CYA policy thing so customers can't claim later Travelocity changed the flight without explicit permission. They also may want you available just in case something wacky happens and they need your approval to proceed.

210 is San Antonio Texas, so probably not toll free. If you're currently inside the US, you should be able to call the 888 number and still get taken care of.

Have you tried their e-mail support? If they just want something official from you to keep you from backing-out later, they might except an e-mail as proof of acceptance. I've never had much luck with e-mail support, though.

I guess I'll have to call Air China directly then, thanks for the tip. Both Travelocity customer support, on the phone, and e-mail customer support said they would call back within 24-48 hours to resolve the problem. It's days later and they haven't even bothered to call. It seems horribly unprofessional and downright rude.

I had a similar problem with Cheaptickets.com. They changed the first flight of a ticket to Europe this past summer with no notification, and I only found out because I called the airline to request seats and they had us flying to a different city.

I had to make several calls to them over a couple days, but it did all work out and they put us on the flight they should have initially changed us to at no charge as we weren't the ones that had made a change.

Cheaptickets kept blaming Korean Air, and Korean Air said it was Cheaptickets' issue. Who knows what actually happened, but it worked out. It was a pain though to deal with, and if I had not called in advance we would have never known about the change.

Well, for the record, Travelocity did sort it out and they changed the connecting flight time. Didn't find this out until I called Air China myself, though. I think the posters here are right--it might just be easiest to call the airline directly. Thanks for the tips!
