As the title suggests my wife wants to pack up the family and move to Daejeon. I am presently Okay with this Idea because after 7 years of living in Seoul I'm tired of the hustle and bustle and, would like to live in a tamer city.

However, as I have trolled the internet looking for positions in Daejeon and, I have come across little to nothing in regards to employment opportunities. Right now I have a decent job that pays well. I'm afraid that the move to Daejeon might cripple us financially; especially if the only jobs available are the ones I see online. (Paying: 2.0~2.5 Million KRW)

Am I missing something here? Am I not looking in the right places? If any of you long term guys/gals that may live in Daejeon or the surrounding area would be kind enough to give me any insight into where I should look or apply it would be greatly appreciated.

That's a normal wage in many places. In 2009, I was getting 2.3 million in Ilsan, so I don't think it would be unusual for a teacher to get 2.5 or 2.6 million won in a place like Daejeon. Many of the universities won't give you 3.0 million. I wouldn't risk moving if it means a decline in wages unless you can open up your own business. You could look into having a very large apartment with an extra room and a computer and you and your wife teach out of your place. Since you're an F-2 you'd have to do privates to compensate for a lower salary. What kind of salary are you expectin' to find in Daejeon?

Pretty easy to make about 4 in these parts without working that much. You'll be working in a lot of different places, but there's tons of PT jobs all the time.

I did quick search of the jobs section of ths site and used Seoul as a keyword and after looking at the first severa jobs, I didn't see any offering a salary higher than what you saw for Daejeon.

In fact, I don't think I've seen more than one or two job offers advertised anywhere in Korea that paid above 2.5 for hogwon jobs.

The good jobs (great pay, great school) rarely have to advertise. Word of mouth travels quickly and they have teachers waiting. Networking and research is the way to the good paying, great schools type of jobs.

As for Daejeon itself, its a nice city. Its a big city (1.6 mil) with a feel of a much smaller city. There are jobs in Daejeon. There are two recruiters who are the most well known and seem to specialize in jobs there. They both live there. Top gun recruiting, Richard Slezak and Cool recruiting's Charles Park, who also owns one of the more popuar foreign bars in the city. Go to the foreigner facebook page for the teachers there, Daejeon Peeps and network there.
