| My hagwon has told me recently that I need to get an apostiled CBC and diploma now even though I am on an F-2 visa. They said that there are new rules being set down by the Ministry of Education. Any other F-2 people out there being told this? |

How long do you have to get it done?

| It's true. Even as a school owner, I have to go through the same process as an E visa holder. |

| Anyone know if this is for renewing a contract at an existing school, or for a new job at a new gig? Also applies to F5's? Since when is this 'new' law in effect? |

This is beyond annoying. So we have to get a criminal background check every year or if we change employers even after having an F-2? What's the benefit of having the visa?
Ridiculous!
I thought your wife sponsors your F-2, why does an employer have any say in where we work or what we do? |

It's for the education board - they have deemed that all teachers who work at a school must go through the same regulations, regardless of visa status. |

Sounds like if you are teaching kids, they want a CBC no matter what your visa status is. I understand the Korean's concern. If you were teaching in a public school back in your home country you'd probably be expected to provide a CBC there as well.

Well public schools have required a CBC for the past year or two from F2 visa holders.
The annoying thing here for F2 and E2 visa holders is going to be doing it every year, even if you are keeping the same job.
And having to do it potentially for every part time job you hold. Most F2 visa holders work a few part time gigs. So since a CBC is only good for what 90 days (can't remember). If you switch part time gigs once or twice a year, you might need to get this done multiple times a year. (If your boss is even bothering to register you with the MOE)
Back home, you do the CBC once. And your done, you don't do it every year. Unless you switch jobs. Also, you don't need all the apostille nonsense (which is pointless).
So yeah, that's kind of going from too little, jumping past normal, and landing on the abnormal on the other end of the spectrum.
I'm all for having background checks for reasons pertaining to immigration and working with kids. But let's not get carried away here. |

I'm not an F2 Visa holder but there is one really big concern that comes to my mind. What about guys on an F2 who have maybe been here for a while, have a wife and kids to support, but don't have a clean CBC? Surely to god they wont be in a position where they face losing their jobs over something like a DUI?
Also, one more question. I thought the Degree was always a requirement in order to be legally registered with the local MOE? Even for an F2 doing privates. Maybe I'm wrong about that |

Last time I was in immigration because I renewed my passport I asked about this and they told me that I would not need new documents for a visa. I thought we moved to a one and done system?!? |

It's not immigration asking for it, it's the Department of Education. There's a difference. |

I'm guessing that means it applies only to public schools? Or does the MOE have power over hagwons etc. What about tutoring? If you apply for a tutoring licence do you you need to show a cbc? Part time jobs? So many questions but no answers  |
