S. Korea, Florida to mutually recognize driver's licenses
SEOUL, Oct. 18 (Yonhap) -- South Korea and the U.S. state of Florida will recognize the validity of driver's licenses issued by each other starting late this week, police here said Tuesday.
Under an agreement signed earlier in the day, holders of driver's licenses issued by their own authorities are eligible for a driving permit in the counterpart region without requiring additional training or tests, according to the National Police Agency.
The agreement goes into effect on Oct. 22, it added.

With the octagenarians and now Korean drivers, Florida is not a good place to drive. |

So does this mean - you can just show your Florida license or will you have to exchange it for a Korean. Even if you have to exchange it do you still have to get it verified. I have been hearing that some people still have to go up to Seoul and the US embassy to get their licenses verified. |

Looks like floridians are eligbile for a driving permit so there is still some paperwork to be filed I'm guessing. |

Meanwhile Koreans get off the plane in Miami and are immediately eligible for everything and anything. |

Well the people from the embassy make a monthly, bureaucratic run to the consulate in Pusan if that is closer and easier for people. |

Ya life sucks. But the Koreans can think the same of Canadians. Wow they can step off the plane and live here for six months - no visa needed. |

I've had my fl and korean license on me for about 4 years. Not sure what that really means. Do you automatically get a korean drivers license or only a permit? |

I believe it means you don't have to go through a series of tests to get your license. When I got my license I just showed my Canadian license, some minor 'health' tests, which for me was a vision check and squatting 2 times on some circle, bring a few photos, fill out a few forms and I believe 8000-won. |

As a Floridian who has yet to get a Korean license, this is good news and bad news. On the plus side, I can get a Korean license more easily, but now my family back home may have to be subjected to the homicidal tendencies of Korean drivers. |

Probably the same agreement Virginia and Maryland already have. You'll be able to trade (temporarily) your valid Florida license for a Korean one without a written test. |
