|
|
| I am applying to the EPIK program and I have one year teaching experience at a hagwon. I have a reference letter from them, but I left in bad terms ( went to pension and Labour board on them). I am wondering if anyone knows if EPIK will check the reference letter and how in-depth is the check? |

I would think that they would call your references. |

EPIK DOES check your reference letters.
My director came in yesterday saying she got a call from EPIK and my last director did the same last year. |

I guess some of them, since my references have never been called. |

| maybe Epik does, but individual MOE's probably don't, if you are thinking of applying to a specific area you can skip epic all together. I know for a fact that mine weren't checked, but they were out of country. In country might be a little different, but changing a 7 to a 9 when giving them the phone number is all it takes. |

| I'm in korea two months with epik and i know for a fact that they didn't check my references as one of them was made up. However, i'm pretty sure that in the application they check any korean references. I think that i recall reading that when i was applying. Mine were from out of country so i got away with it |

Very nice of you to point this out in an open forum.
Guess what? We'll check all out of country references for sure next time. |

Hit or miss.
Personally, I would not include any reference I was not sure of in an application for a job. |

Wow.
Seriously, this is the prime example of people who do may not quite grasp that online does not mean secret or completely anonymous.
Good luck with that. |

I think it's more a prime example of people who should not be teaching here. |

I don't think they have checked my letter references, but they sure called my former CT's in Korea.
So my guess is yes, they do check some reference. If your reference is in Korea there is a pretty good chance your reference will be called upon to vouch for you. |

| I would imagine they probably wouldn't phone overseas references because of time difference issues but they could certainly e-mail the references. |
