I was wondering if anybody knows if there are any good places to buy console games. I hate dealing with the people in yongsan and it is quite far for me to travel. Homeplus and emart have some but not many. Hi mart has mabye 5. I thought there might be a game store like gamestop or something but I have yet to see one. |

I actually find the game guys at Yongsan (the place across the parking lot) to be pretty good. You can shop around for a best price and can haggle a bit if you want to, but you don't have to. Trade in rates are pretty solid on newer games, too, and there's a pretty good selection. I recommend Mr. Yoon at the booth with a sign that says DMC (Game DMC)- always been a pretty straight shooter and speaks good English.
But to respond more directly to your question, I've found that Hot Tracks at Kyobo bookstores can have a decent selection. Naturally larger ones will offer more. |

playasia.com - they offer mutliple region coding for most titles. Good for the people coming here with US consoles. |

There are lots of console game shops at Technomart Gangbyeon (if it is still standing after all that shaking). I also found that I can get even better prices (without haggling) from a tiny shop in COEX, in the vicinity of the # Apple Store and the large stationery store.
The latter also has older and used games for half price. Credit cards welcome and price stays the same.
If you're European you should stock up on console games while here. I recently bought a game (which disappointed me, "Space Marine") for which I paid 50k Won, so that's like 33-35 Euros. On the German PS3 store the download price was 69.99 Euros! And for double the money I don't get the disk, box, manual and zero resale value! Not sure if the prices are similar in UK etc., but I find the local prices to be very competitive. |

I have dealt with DMC games. I ordered a game from them which he told mei would take 7 -10 days to arrive and that was over a month ago. I have also used playasia but they tend to be more expensive. what is Hot Tracks? |

Hot Tracks is the electronics section of Kyobo bookstores. I'd say the selection is a bit better than your average HomePlus or EMart, but it's not as broad as Yongsan or some of the specialty shops others have posted. |

There is a place in Songtan (blue line) that is called Gamestop BUT after researching and talking to them multiple times, i realized that they are simply USING the gamestop name as a selling point for their store.
you CANT reserve games there.
their prices are in us dollars to which they bump up even more when you pay with korean money.
They have no idea when games actually come in
They lie to you about games, selections, etc. (oh we dont have that game, come back in an hour, oh yeah i think we do have that game in the back. DIDNT look the first time didja?)
numerous other reasons |

I'd like to second this guy (Mr. Yoon) - really nice guy who has always been very honest with me about which games he thinks are good and which aren't. Also prices his games well. Last time I went there I picked up some older games for 5000 each - can't complain at that price! He'll also reply to texts if you want to check if a game is in stock, and how much it costs, before making the trip. |

Prices in USD and they bump them when you want to pay with won?!
Welcome to Songtan, that's standard operating procedure down there for most places.
You mean they aren't actually gamestop affiliated?!
Big deal.
I talk to those guys everyday, they have never once treated me like you claim they have treated you.
Maybe they took the time to get the game you asked for and that's why they didn't have it the first time around. Didn't think of that didja?
I've found their prices to be pretty competitive even with the markup when you pay in won. |
