Im new to Seoul. In my job at the moment I do a split shift but my evening classes are cancelled so I have the whole afternoon off from 1 pm. Want to go to some cool places and do whatevers good. Dont actually have anyone to go with but I live in Jonggak which is a cool place but really hectic. Just want to make the most of my afternoons and go to some cool places. Went to Gyeongbokgung Palace which was cool and have left Seoul to go to Gangwhado which was nice. I have this Lonely Planet Guide to Seoul but like most people seem to find it quite poor. Oh yeah Ive been to Dongnimmum too, liked that. Places of perhaps some sort of cultural or unique value to Korea are always of interest. Please let me know any places and directions. Thanks

Go to the other palaces and the museums. Look around the college campuses and make some Korean friends.

Where are the other palaces and museums? How do you make Korean friends? Do you still live in Gangnam? Have you moved? Are you in Korea? If so, South, or North? Are you happy where you are? Do you eat meat? Where do you buy your meat? Is it fresh? Do you cook it yourself?

I'd go around the Nagwon (Jong-no-sam-ga Line 5) arcade, try out loads of guitars and then get on everyone's nerves by not buying any of them. Then go to the batting cage at the top of Insa-Dong and miss a few balls, getting really frustrated in the end and storming off in a hough. Calm down by nipping into one of the tea houses down Insa-dong, then maybe go to the second hand watch market at Jong-no-5-ga.

This all assumes Jonggak is near Jong-no, and I can't remember if it is.

If having afternoons free is going to last for a while, I'd suggest taking Korean classes if learning Korean interests you. This might be one of the best chances you'll get. Both YBM and Pagoda near Jonggak Station offer them.

For cultural stuff here's some stuff worth checking out:

Jogyesa, the big Buddhist temple near Insadong.

Inwangsan, a short mountain hike that has shamanist shrines and Buddhist temples (go out Exit 2 of DongNimMun Station and walk about ten minutes up the first alley you see).

Not cultural, but walk, bike, or rollerblade along the Han River. You can get there from YeoINaru Station. Great way to kill an afternoon in this weather.

Coex Mall and the KimChi Museum at SamSung Station.

The Sex Museum near GwangHwaMun Station is a fun place to kill an hour or two. Erotic art and sexual history relics from Japan, China, India and Korea. Bring a Korean friend if you can, because they didn't bother translating the explanations into English.
