No, she was probably given the option to stay 8 more days or leave immediately.
Why people on this forum always try and jump on anyone while they are down is beyond me. |

| Yes, I was truly fired. I found out early because the housing manager heard about it before I did and he wants to show my apartment to a new teacher. That was pretty unprofessional if you ask me. I'm better off without this place. I could have stayed the whole 30 days, but who would want to? |

that's not jumping, that's called grasping the subtleties of the English language and resolving conflicting conclusions.
when someone says they're fired but later write "I am choosing", it's a perfectly obvious question.
and once again, i harbor no malice nor resentment toward the OP |

sounds like you should find work at a kindy. This is also why 99% of kindy teachers are female. |
What the **** is this supposed to mean? Women generally prefer hugging, singing, and playing games to critical thinking and talking about current events? |

No, but more women prefer playing with kids than men do. Then we can go home and discuss physics and government policy with other adults. |

it means there are VASTLY more women than men who are interested in or willing to endure daily hugging, singing kiddy songs etc etc etc
this is common knowledge and common sense as a generality and the statistics in the gender split among kindy and elementary school teachers reflect it.
take your trolling pc attitude elsewhere. |

One, I'll take my attitude wherever I like. Two, the reason more kindy teachers are women is because employers prefer to hire women for kindy positions. This has nothing to do with whether women themselves prefer singing songs and playing patty cake to, as NYCGirl said, discussing politics (and I resent the implication that it does). |

The reason there are more female kindy teachers in Korea may be because Korean employers discriminate against men in their job advertisements. However if you take a Western country like the UK, which has strict laws prohibiting sexual discrimination, primary school teachers are still predominantly female. Suggesting that they do indeed generally prefer working with little kids. |

you are completely misconstruing what was initially trying to be stated as being something negative.
sit for a minute and try to figure out why employers prefer to hire women for kindy positions, as you yourself stated. do you think this is just because they smell better or brush their teeth more often?
but ultimately, ignorance is bliss eh?
ps: i hear there is a mcdonalds in greenwich village that would love for you to bring them your attitude. |

in regards to this:
if a person expects to be babied throughout life they should stay at home under their parents wing and watch non-offensive cartoons for their entire lives.
for the rest of the world, people need to hear things that they might not want to hear sometimes whether they are happy or sad. their mood should have absolutely no correlation with the need or hesitation for them to hear important information. in fact when people are sad hearing something unpleasant or shocking can be that much more potent, but again their mood should have no relevance.
that said, this post has nothing to do with this thread, just to the care bear idea above. |

I've learned not to take snarky comments on Dave's personally, so all is forgiven. The truth is that I thought adults would be motivated learners. Some of them are, but others just pay for classes and don't show up. I guess it's sorta like buying a gym membership to them.
Anyway, I will have my letter of release and I won't have to get up before God in the morning, so I'm good. |
I taght 'adults' once at a hakwan. Aside from the adjumas in their 40's or older, all the rest were litarally no different from teaching kids. They would not do homeowrk ever, ask me to be 'more funny / play some games' etc.
The 'best teachers' of adults here are the ones that stroke their egos and throw the learning out the window - same as with teaching the kids pretty much in a lot of environments.
Foriegn teacher must be funny teacher! |
Goos thing I'm funny then. Ha ha. But do they have to give notice for dismissal? I mean written warnings and such? If they haven't threaten to kick up a fuss unless you get a LOR. |

this is of course your right, but then I reserve the right to tell you in a very blunt manner what you can DO with your "attitude" if you take it to ME
maybe I'm suggesting as NYC Gal notes that women may be more all encompassing in their interests, activities, etc where general male interests can usually be easily found in illustrations such as these:
http://johnmusick.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/male-brain.jpg
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_TucxTpm2vK4/RzSKlcVxZyI/AAAAAAAAA8Y/m1y-X0W--go/s400/9519b.gif
which aren't particularly compatible with spending a lot of time with kids.
Btw, don't get me wrong. I love kids.
in (tightly) controlled dosages.
your dosage is never ending in a kindy, elementary job.
supposedly you become more tolerant of them for longer periods of time once they are YOUR kids. We'll see if that proves true one day. |

No. Clearly you are lacking in those critical thinking skills which you so adamantly defend. I said that we tend to like it more than men do, but that we ALSO like to discuss politics, string theory, and whatever else pops up in conversation.
In case you didn't understand: Plenty of men like kids. Women tend to like them a bit more. That doesn't mean we are lacking in other areas. |

in small doses.
then when we're bored of them or find them commanding too much of our time, attention or worse yet, have to deal with their crying.
that's when we like to say.. Ok.. off to Mommy you go
I have this recurring nightmare where I'm awakened by my own future newborn's crying in the middle of the night and I throw his/her crib out the window with the newborn still in it. |

Wrong on all counts. Koreans love to play games!!! You need to learn the culture a bit more. Anyhow, ask for a letter of release or tell them you want 30 days notice. Look at your contract and go to tax office to see if they paid you taxes. Just some strong arm tactics I have learned along the way. They fear the Tax Office. |
