I'm thinking of going to Vietnam this winter. Never been before, so any tips for a 4-5 day trip? Which city to fly to, where to go etc?

4-5 days for a trip to Vietnam is really short. You won't be able to see much at all.

With such a tight schedule, I'd do Hanoi and Halong Bay.

I second what Gamecock said above. I spent 5 weeks in Vietnam about 4 years ago, coming in from China in the north all the way down the coast and then up the Mekong into Cambodia.
I loved it, and one of the best things I did was rent a kayak by myself and just spend the day kayaking through Halong Bay.
You could also go to Ninh Binh, an hour or two south of Hanoi and rent a bicycle and just cycle around the countryside and also take the boat trip up the river. It's very beautiful.

I think in such a short trio, you can go to Hanoi. There are many attractions to see such as One Pillar Pagoda,Sword Restored lake, Temple of Literature,The Ho Chi Minh Museum and many more.

I would love to stay at Ville Sicilia
