I've been seeing people spelling apostille as apostle. An apostle is a religious term like the Apostles Peter and Paul. We can't get apostles, only apostilles:)

Killjoy. I've always wanted an apostle. I'm not greedy like that Jesus fellow. Just one.

Damn it. I guess I'm just not willing to become a cult leader.

Unless it's a birder cult. Are there enough birders in Korea for us to form a cult? I'm new to the board and the country, so I've no idea, really.

I've heard people pronounce it as 'apostle', too.

Speaking of which, I always thought apostle was meant to be capitalized, apparently the lower-case 'a' is fine, too. Learning new things every day!

I think it's only capital A if we're talking about Jebus's followers. And then only if you're a follower of Jebus. Much like the way only followers of a religious figure find it necessary to capitalize pronouns that refer to the god in question. (That is, "Jebus loved His Apostles, but not in that way.)

When you're referring to a cult leader's followers, then you use the lower case 'a'. Frankly, until I came to Korea, I had never heard of an apostille before. As far as pronunciation, the tille in apostille sounds like the word till, as in the till (uh pos til). You know, the cash register. Did you take the money out of the till, George?

apostil
   /əˈpɒstɪl/ Show Spelled
noun
a marginal annotation or note.

Also, apostille.

Origin: 152030; < Middle French apostille, noun derivative of apostiller to add marginal notes, derivative, with a- a-5, of Medieval Latin postilla marginal note, perhaps from the phrase post illa (verba) after these (words), with illa construed as the Latin diminutive suffix
