I need some advice from the visa experts out there.
I have been in Canada for a few months now while the job market calmed down a bit in Korea. While here, I have been doing some work for a Korean company to write TOEFL test questions online to help ease the financial burden of being home without a job. All of the work is done through email.
My concern is how this will affect my E2 visa. I now have a teaching position lined up and will soon be applying for my E2 to return to Korea this winter. Will working online be against E2 visa laws? I know it wouldn`t be a problem if the company was from another country. Then it shouldn`t be an issue. But it is a Korean company, so I`m worried that it will be a violation.
Basically, I just want to know if I need to quit the online creative writing position now, before applying for the E2 visa, or if this kind of work is considered acceptable.
Any info or advice would be appreciated. |

If your job is at a hagwan, immigration won't care and your boss won't likely care (but be careful of clauses in your contract - you wouldn't want to give them excuse for an 11th month termination).
If you are at a public school (government job or other government job) it is a violation of the Civil Servants Act and will get you fired if discovered.

Thanks for the reply Ttompatz. Was hoping to hear from you 
I will be working at a hagwon. I just wasn't sure if it violated the same clause that tutoring does, or not.
If immigration isn't bothered by me having a working contract for online work, that makes a happy guy. It's only a few hours a week, so I was hoping to hold on to it. |
