This question is directed at those of us who are considered "long-timers" or "lifers" but can also be relevant to all teachers here.

The question is simple: Do you involve yourself in community activities here in Korea (social clubs, sports, community centers and such)?

My answer is yes.

I am involved in a few things in my immediate community.
I do volunteer work on some sundays and play korean chess with the old dudes in the park every sunday morning.
I am also looking into hiking clubs and other type of activities.

Hey, I have a question about Korean chess. Is it much like umm regular chess? I do enjoy a good game of "regular" chess. I am coming to korea (Pyungchon) the end of this month. Do alot of people play Korean chess in the park. Well anyone, have a good one..

The korean variant of chess (Jangi) is both similar and different then regular chess.
The object of the game is the same but the pieces are very different.
They move differently which changes the dynamics of the game.

As for people playing Jangi in Korea, its mostly old men. They meet at local restaurants (in my area they do) or parks.

I play on sundays with the old dudes. Just a couple of games.
Its enjoyable and now that I can hold my own against them its pretty cool.

They are a great bunch indeed!

One of my regular opponents is a 73 year old grandfather.
He is a cool old dude with tons of things to say.

I actually enquired about joining the local chapter of Rotary International through the international office but they never got back to me.

Share your expert dating tips with the kiwiboy and someone will inevitably reciprocate in good faith.

Just Because.

I noticed them playing jangi and cards in the park on several occasions. I got curious, bought a board and pieces and just hiked up to the park.
One of the old dudes was our neighbor so he introduced me and that was it.
Been playing almost every sunday now.
You learn a lot from these old dudes.
