Another International Shame? What do you guys think?
A triple-crowned beauty queen, and current title holder, from Bristol has claimed that she fled the competition in South Korea because she fears for her safety. She says that she felt that she was sexually harassed and bribed and at times not provided with food. When the police arrived, the girls were interrogated without the help of their interpreters though the interpreters were on the scene; the police forced the interpreters back (as mentioned on KBS2) or the translators simply refused to help (BBS). The arrangers and committee leaders failed to respond to bbc reporters.

The story got about 10-15 min scandal-style coverage on KBS2, including interviews with other pageant attendants. One (Venezuela or France?) actually said, "I don't know how she could have been harassed. The helpers are with us 24/7. They are even sleeping next to us. But if it's true that's really bad."
The breaking story was followed up by an equally long fashion show-cum-review of Korea's comedy night coverage. |

If it's true, then that's pretty messed up. Then again, I'm not that surprised that the competition would be corrupt. |

Amy Willerton looks way older than 19. Or maybe I've been in Korea too long. |

Ms Willerton said: "They put us in a hotel with no beds, they often didn't feed us.
"I started complaining straight away, but they would always reply with 'you won't win the contest if you complain'.
"Then it moved onto bribery, sexual harassment. Girls were offered places in the competition in exchange for sex, in exchange for money, it was completely corrupt."
She said after being sexually harassed she and several others informed police.
"When the police arrived they called in one of the chairmen of the pageant who actually got his wallet out straight away |
Abuses of vulnerable foreign workers.
Sexual harrasment.
Corruption.
Bribery.
Ineffective Policing.
YEP sounds familiar.
The cracks in the Korean veneer don't take long to show to the international visitor.
Ajosshis and their behaviour are the root of this country's image problem. |
