My ex Korean co-teacher who has a masters degree in English education (which she obtained by printing essays off the internet) insisted to me that the Korean war was in the 1940s.
When I first arrived in Korea I was with a university educated Korean female when an extremely old man came up to me (I was in a small farming town of about 2000 people) and said, "You American man?"
I said "No, Canadian." Turns out he remembered a lot of English from fighting alongside American soldiers. My Korean wasn't that good at the time but I had been self-studying in Canada for a bit first. I asked my friend to ask him if he fought alongside any Canadians. I remember cringing, because I could understand what she said. She asked "Did you fight with Canadians?"
He was like "No, China" and walked away pissed off.
That shows the value of the Korean education system right there. Believing that South Korea was at war with Canada in the Korean war. |

Fighting "with" can mean either fighting against or alongside. I don't see where anyone believed that South Korean was at war with Canada in your post.
And even if it was this friend's belief...how does that equate to the failure of the education system?
I've met plenty of ignorant Americans and Canadians here...should I blame their education systems too or just realize there are plenty of ignorant people in the world regardless of nationality or educational system?
If people don't listen or pay attention during class (to list just one reason) they are not going to get much value out of it even if they are going to Harvard or Yale. |

I can kind of get how Canadians and Americans don't know much about the Korean war, although they should. But its kind of messed up how Koreans don't know much about it when its such a big part of their history. The extreme left of this country has infiltrated the education system and positions of government and are poisoning children with their communist lies. There are a great number of conscripts who don't even see the Norks as the enemy. Something is wrong in so many ways when scores of young men are forced to defend against an enemy they don't even see as a threat. |
