Been in Korea for 7 yrs, but only 2 days in Busan.
Man why didn't I know how damned cool Busan was all this time and why the heck didn't I move here earlier! Seoul! Ha!
Have had an awesome time today walking around jagalchi fish market, Busan Tower park, the huge Lotte store which has awesome real Japanese ramen stores, tons of cheese and imported beers and Asia's biggest indoor musical fountain and light show to watch while you eat! All this and more a few minutes walk from my apt as well as the cleanest, loveliest air in Korea!
Anyhow.... Anyone in the Jungang / Nampo area, know where there is a Muay Thai or a boxing gym? I want to start soon (total beginner.)
Also any groups that get together for a beer or meal in the week after work? Any 'waygook' bars around?
Also, if anyone knows of a 'friendly' poker game midweek or weekends, please do give me a pm as I'm a fishy and will be easy food for any sharks out there...! Heh heh... not.
Ok gotta run b4 I start raving on about how cool it is here for pages on end.
Also - any cool facebook groups, let me know. Cheers

Nampo-dong is my favourite (urban) area in all Korea. The main 'street' has literally everything you could possibly want. And off in the side streets you have some incredible cool unique stores. If you keep walking west along the main street you also get to a gigantic market/indoor market area, arranged by product types, so you can get some amazing cheap stuff.
Also in Busan you have Gwangali Beach, Haeundae Beach, the 2 Uni areas, Seomyeon (gigantic shopping area), Shinsegae/Centum City (world's biggest department store), the UN Memorial Cemetery, BEXCO (if anything interesting is being exhibited anyway), and a million other things to see.
Seoul is crap in comparison, good job on making the move!
P.S go to Busan Station stop and cross the road to 'China Town' for all the Filipino/Russian go-go girl bars if you want to see something you wouldn't expect to see in Korea! |

welcome to Busan, I did some exploring in Nampo last week, it's a lively place. As for waygook bars in that area, I have no idea, the main foreigner hotspots are Haeundae, Gwangali, PNU, KSU. On facebook there are two hiking/day out groups that you might want to check out:
Type 'lovable busan' and 'busan daytrippers' into the facebook search. There's usually some food and drink involved in these trips. PM me for beers etc with someone of a similar age! |

The gym Malislamusrex is referring to is Team MAD and it's a great MMA gym.
http://cafe.daum.net/leeba3 is their website. A little hard to find the info but they're in Dongdaeshin off subway line one. |

The bars in Kyungsung are the best and busiest these days - Check out HQ for great food and great people, Vinyl for live music, and Ol 55 for the greatest lifers you'll ever meet in this country. Lots and lots of others in that area, and everything is close together (and somewhere always stays open until sunrise).
Beached Bar at Gwangali Beach is another keeper, as well as Sharkey's at Haeundae. Check out the Wolfhound in Haeundae if you're a sports nut/fratboy type.
Check out the calendar on Busan Haps for info about weekly events - there are groups and open mic nights just about every night of the week, so I'm sure you'll find something that suits you.
If you're looking for something to do this weekend, come to Kyungsung - there's a huge pub crawl going on with all the best bars and all the best people. Lots of people to meet, if you want to, and lots of places to just sit and chat if that's what you're looking for.
Welcome to Busan! |

Welcome to Busan, I lived there 11 years and love that city dearly.
I will second the OL 55 comment, lots of very cool longterm resident wayguks go there on the weekends. You want to meet longtermers who are doing well in Korea and enjoy the place (while being able to critize it when needed) go there.
PNU was the happenibng spot for foreign bars a few years ago but thats changed.
Somyeon is worth the trip as its a pretty busy shopping/bar district, then again you are right near Nampoodong so you have all of that right there.
You are also near to Busan Station so one KTX trip away from many places.
Going the other way, if you enjoy hiking and ocean view you have teajundea.
Then you have the classic Haeundea beach area but from Nampo its a long haul, even by subway.
Have a good one out there in Busanland.
If you have other questions about the place shoot me a pm. |

Yesh pat ghb, my school is on Yeongdo so I will certainly be going to check out Taejeongdae soon!
Will likely be checking out the Kyungsan and pnu scenes within the next month also! |

Or got to the main areas outside of any U.S. army installation in Korea. Less Russians these days, but pretty much the same situation in much livelier environs.
I'm not a resident of Busan, but I've always like the Fuzzy Navel over on Kwanganli. Not sure how great it is outside of the summer months though. |

Can't be. Impossible. Accordiing to many of the Seoul based teachers on this forum, Korea starts and ends with Seoul. Anywhere else and you're living an unfulfilled life. |
