After waiting almost ten weeks, I called to check the status of my FBI background check and they said they had difficulty reading my fingerprints. My print card is now under a specialty unit that tries to decipher hard to read fingerprint cards. Now I have to wait 1-2 weeks to hear back from them

I am down to the wire here; I have a job lined up next month in Korea and I am waiting on this last part of the required visa documents. (I was going to obtain the federal Apostille personally in DC.)

I would have submitted multiple fingerprint cards at the time of my request, but I wasnt even aware of fingerprints being rejected. In fact, I have only heard of those occurrences from reading these forums and other research online. Even when I think about it now, if law enforcement can take fingerprints from crime scenes, you think an actual fingerprint card would be a walk in the park for them.

I have found posts on this site saying to contact your home districts congressmen to speed up the process- which looks like the miracle I will need now- but has anybody had success in doing this? How about senators?

What can I do now? Has anybody ever been through this situation and have advice?

People were calling their congressmen and the like to try to speed up the process for getting the Apostille on the CBC, not for getting the CBC itself.
From what I was told before, you can't speed up the FBI process. Many a person from this site has tried, and been told the same thing; it's not possible.
You can try calling people though just in case--but I fear you will get the same response.
I know--it sucks!
I feel for you--I went through all of this bullshit over the summer.
Good Luck!

I went through that a few years back.

They sent back my rejected prints and told me to get them redone.
I was given a special code and/or enevelope (can't remember) which would give priority to and expedite the second submission.

BTW, I was never contacted about a "possible problem" with my prints or that they were in a "specialty unit"...they just sent them back - rejected!

I also agree with you...you would think that catching a murderer based on smeared prints would make processing a slightly imperfect fingerprint card a walk in the park.

I too was shocked when they were returned.

Luckily, I didn't actually need them as I wound up renewing at my current job.

Anyhow, I hope the "specialty unit" can pull a miracle for you and your situation will be resolved quickly.

Best of luck!

Hey 22tea77,

By any chance do you remember how long they said the expedited second submission would take that they offered you?

I am planning for the worst, but hoping for the best.

It was a few years ago, but once I resubmitted them, I believe I had them back in about 3 or 4 weeks.

Good luck!

Has anyone done the electronic fingerprints for the E2, or is this still not an option?

What do you mean "electronic?"
Do you mean digital?
I did mine at a couple different sheriff stations, and it was all done digitally where you just hold your fingers down on a scanner thing.
If they weren't a good read, they could be corrected right there.
The cop had to redo my index finger a few times.
I had no problems after submitting my prints.
I mentioned to a couple different cops that they must be glad they don't have to use ink anymore, and they both said that reading prints done with ink was a "nightmare."
Do they even use ink these days?

Before I came to Korea I did the digital version for my E-2.

For my current FBI CBC I had to do ink here in Korea at the Seocho police station. I was anticipating the illegible prints issue due to the fact they were using ink, so I had the police do multiple ten-cards for me (on regular A-4 paper), and then submitted all of them to the FBI. I figured there had to be a legible one on there SOMEWHERE. It came back ok, so I'm in the clear. Very Happy
