Before you panic, this only applies to those not living in officetels or villas. I believe those outside of towns/cities (read: absolute boondocks) may also be immune.

For the rest of us in houses or individual dwellings of any kind, there are some new, complex composting regulations.

All your compost must be in a little bucket that they supply to you. You have to buy a small tag that fits in a slot in the top. If the bucket is not full, or the little tag is not there, - whether you didn't buy one, or someone simply walked off with yours - they will not take your compost.

ALSO, you cannot compost: bones/meat/grease, fruit seeds, vegetable seeds/roots or egg shells. I guess you are expected to dig the seeds out of any apple cores/pepper husks/kiwis(?) you might have lying around.

I think it's time to dig a hole in my yard...

My question is what exactly do they use this stuff for?

I mean, should someone put something not permitted in the composting trash, wouldn't that be a hazard in some way, and non-detectable at that?

Food garbage is turned into feed for livestock and fertilizer. It costs the Korean Government W15,000 per metric ton to process the garbage into useable feed and fertilizer. It also costs the K-govy W7,000 per metric ton to dump food garbage into the Sea of Japan.

In 2008 alone the Korean government dumped 800,000 metric tons of food garbage into the Sea of Japan.

I just bought new food garbage bags. I'm going to keep using them unless someone yells at me.

Ok, they process 1 metric tons of garbage into animal feed @ W15,000. Then how much do they profit from selling the processed feed to the farmers?
