I want to pick up some bike lubricant but I have no idea what kind to get, and because my Korean is crap I'm not sure I'll be able to get the right kind.
Anyone know what it's called in Korean? And are there any specific brands or kinds that I should be looking for?
I've got a road bike and I usually go for a 3 hour ride 2 or 3 times a month. How often should I be lubing it?
Thanks |

I have a bottle of some right here. I bought it at a bike shop along Cheongyechon, and it's called, "Bike-X" in English. The entire thing is in English. If you walk into a bike shop and ask for "oil" then I bet you'll get what you want. As for me, I'm not a big biker, but I just lube it when it looks like it is getting dry. |

I use White Lightning - they have it at the bike store in Yongsan. Haven't seen it many other places.
You should lube it based on how you ride. If you be ridin' dirty, then you need to clean and lube it every time you ride. Road biking, not as much. Personally, I have a very nice bike and I clean the chain and lube it after I ride, but I'll put in 50 or 60 k in a single ride, no sweat (well, some sweat).
WD-40 is absolutely a no-go. It breaks down oil and will not come out of the links and when you lube it up again, that oil will break down. WD-40 on a bike is a sin.
As for oiling the chain, find the oil and then oil every single link. Sounds tedious, but you can do it in a minute or two. Just a single drop on every link and it will soak in. Wipe of any excess when you are done. I like the White Lightning because it is a teflon based lube - it goes on white and dries clear. It's not sticky or gummy, so it won't catch a lot of dirt on it, so the chain will stay stronger longer. They make 3 kinds - Clean, Epic, and Wet. I use the wet in the winter - it's thicker and very dirty, but it's the best stuff out there. Anyway, as far as what it's called in korean, try "oil" or "lube." |

Nathan covered it well.
I'll add Finish Line as another brand to look for. It's a good brand and seems to be more common in bike shops than White Lightning. |

If you can, find a lube labled wet lube. There's a couple types of bike lube including wet, dry and ceramic. They are all liquids. The wet lube requires less reapplication though. |

I found that WD-40 will only wipe off the grease that's already there and leaves the chain high and dry a few days later.
I just go to a local bike shop and they'll grease it for free. |
