If I was opening a language school anywhere and I learned there was a better market for a certain race, nationality or gender I'd go for that demographic. I just wouldn't put it in the job description
For example if I wanted to open a Chinese language school in the UK and one of the selling points was being taught by a Chinese native speaker you can bet I wouldn't employ a white or black person. I'd also target speakers of a preferred dialect and if women are also preferred I'd favour a woman. |

Yes and If I was running a bus company in 1950s America and I learned that white people, who were the majority, expected black people to give up their seats for them, I'd go for that rule. Because profitability trumps everything doesn't it? |

Its not the same really unless the bus companies were in competition and white travellers could pick up a bus company that stuck black to the back over one that didn't. |

First!
No, five pages? Racism in Korea? I'm startled.
No gays though, or need for antidepressants, right? Cliffs work better.
Once a woman offered me a job. She said you're white right. I hung up. |

I don't understand your second sentence. What does 'Cliffs work better' mean? |

Koreans don't take mental health issues seriously enough. So disorders that could be treated and managed ended up being solved by leaping from a high place such as a building or a cliff. |

You can get them to change the ad all you want but that's probably not going to change their hiring policies. The only difference would be that a lot of non-Caucasians would waste time sending in their resumes.
It's not right but short of direct mind control you're never going to be able to ensure an employer is being 100% non-prejudicial and fair when hiring in Korea or any other country.
Still it's kind of an ugly thing to see in a job ad and it's probably better to not have it out in the open. |

It's a good heads up to everyone though.
I am white so not discriminated out of applying but it's a huge red flag regardless.
They either have some weird expectations of what white people are like (at best that means enduring "can you eat spicy food every day" at worst....), have scant regard for actual education (image and $$$ rule) or have had a problem with their last non white worker (if a Gyopo had a hard time there then what chance do I have). |

Ok now what did you seriously expect here? A full on letter of personnal apology to you or to the western world? I always forget, are there two "n's" in personnal, or three?
1- You GOT response Yes, he GOT response. Not "a" response. He got response. Thank you Frankenstein. Or Tarzan, or whoever you're trying to emulate. Or is that emulattte?
2- The response was polite and did not take for ever. Did you mean the actual word "forever"? I assure you it's a real word.
The eyeroll is really not needed here telly as your letter reached a director and was responded to. |

Wow you took a lot of time to do that Adam and all those eyerolls to boot.
You get a gold star for finding all the mistakes on an online discussion board and for pure effort and ranting.
Consider yourself the Daves Town Marshall of English. By the way Wyatt, do you go after EVERYONE with the same zeal?
If its just me then you are stripped of your badge and are just a light stalker with too much time on your hands.
Cheers
PS Did YOU write a letter or did you just come in here to take a swing at my post? |

I actually support the employer.
Why is it ok to do the following:
1. Ask for Females preferred
2. Have All Black Colleges where other races are excluded
3. Have jobs for "Native Indians" only.
4. Post jobs that in the Police & Fire Dept requesting "Non whites" only
5. Have Affirmative Action programs that benefit all people but whites.
Globally whites are a minority.
From a western viewpoint, It seems that its ok to give a leg up to any segment of society except on the basis of being male or being white.
The moment you do someone plays the race card.
If any of you complain about this Korean employer try complaining about all the gender and racial injustices outlined above first. |

It's all about the thinking behind the advert though isn't it. The examples you gave were either, like you said, to try and counter a perceived imbalance in opportunities for minorities or in the case of the first one due to an idea that women can work with kindies better. What is the actual thinking behind someone placing an ad for 'Caucasians only'? At best you could claim it's down to people wrongly thinking black people have a poorer/non standard level of English but most people believe it's simply down to Korean parents not wanting a black face teaching their kids. Fairly basic racism. And instead of making a stand against it, that school is kow towing to it on the basis of turning a profit. |

It says preferred, not "need not apply".
There's a difference.

Only if you don't know how to read between the lines.
Here, I'll show you what it really says.
Caucasians preferred. You can apply if you are not caucasian but you have a snow balls chance in hell of getting an interview let alone the actual job. |
This is true. I applied to jobs that said "females preferred" thinking I might have a shot because they didn't specifically say "females only". I got no response back from those places. ㅠ_ㅠ |
