Galaxy S2 HD LTE comes out this Friday or Monday, according to the guy at the LG U+ store. Then again, he tried telling me that it was only for LG, not SK.

lol.

you might have misinterpreted what the guy was trying to say. he might have meant that the lgu+ version is compatible only with lgu+'s network which is true. the lg version runs on the evdo rev.a standard for its 3g signal while the kt and sk versions run on the hspa+ protocol.

all of them use lte for 4g which is curious because kt doesn't even have a fully deployed lte network yet.

Interesting, thanks for the update. Which is better? My coworker swears that LG is trying to bet everything on the strength of their LTE network to repair their poor reputation, so LG's service should be good. However, SK will catch up within a few months so the advantage of LG will only be the price of the contract. So far, everyone tells me to go SK, but it gives fewer GB/month for the same price as LG.

Also, assuming I go back to the states, which phone networks support which versions of the phone?

better is subjective to many different factors. in korea i've never had any issues with service and i've been with both lg and kt so far. i switched from lg to kt because of the rev.a standard that lg uses that required me to switch to a roaming phone when i travel because not much of the world uses rev.a. now i can just use my galaxy sII on kt anywhere in the world without changing sims or changing phones. lg also has a worse selection of phones than sk and kt.

as it stands now lg does seem to have the faster and bigger lte network in korea but lte is still in its infancy here and kt and sk will level the playing field sooner than later. the cost is also prohibitive so unless you absolutely need lte speed which 99% of consumers don't, then getting in the lte game at this point is kind of a luxury that is wholly unnecessary.

if you travel and need to use your phone overseas then i would also recommend sk but if you don't travel and don't use your phone to make calls or text while roaming then lg would also be a fine choice. if you plan on going back to the states the kt galaxy s II lte would be the best choice. it is almost the same as the sk version but the sk version uses a different method to sms that i believe is not used in the usa.
