Hey just got here two months ago and live in Gangjin. Its a small town but nothing to do. There are only a few English teachers in town and I really haven't much in common (they are a bit younger).
I am a straight male 39, about an hour from Mokpo, a hour and a half from Gwangju and 45 min from Naju. If anybody wants to get together or just talk, grab a beer or whatever give me a shout. |

Is it possible for you to get to Busan or another large town on weekends? You might have better luck doing that. Going to a foreign bar or whatever in your town is also something you can do.
The sad thing is that 95% of English teachers are under 30 and the majority of those are age 22-25.
Another option is to learn Korean and make Korean friends. |

Busan is doable, kind of long but doable. I am in the last stage of getting my drivers license, so I will pick up a car in the next month or two. There are no foreign bars here at all. They are all in Gwangju. Thanks for the insight. |

Just to give you some hope--
I'd say it's more like 80-85 % who are under 30.
At my last job, out of the 14 teachers, only 6 were under 30.
Also most Universities tend to hire the "over 30 crowd."
At my current University, there are 12 NET's and we are all 35+.
So we "old fogies" are out there; it just might take a little while to find us!
Good Luck! |

And some of us in our 30's actually prefer hanging out with those the same age or older, as is my case. The frat crowd bores, annoys and exhausts me. |

I'm 27 and find that I'm usually the oldest in the crowd here. That and I don't drink and have no desire to spend the night at nightclubs four nights a week, so I too prefer hanging out with people in their 30s (not assuming people in their 30s all stopped going to nightclubs though). |

Yea, I would like to stay aways from the frat crowd. Thanks for the insight, I guess I will keep seeking. Hopefully when I get some wheels things will open up for me as well. |

Go to Korean bars and meet Koreans. A lot of them are excited to meet foreigners and will pay for your alcohol. I've had a lot of fun doing this to the point where I stopped hanging out with foreigners. |

Why are people even writing what they're sexually attracted to? For being so desperate for social interaction, you would think that having a conversation with a gay man wouldn't be the end of the world...
1.) Age
2.) Sexual Orientation
You meet both qualifications? Then let's be best friends! |

DaHu & DejaVu,
To answer your question, I mentioned this because on a previous thread a guy was torn apart for NOT stating his interests or specifics in what type of friend he was looking for. Looking for a friend was not limited to just strait people. I was simply stating that i was not Gay so if a gay male was looking at my post as a opportunity to meet or talk to me with the intentions or possibilities of any homosexual activities that it wasn't my preference. I have no issues with befriending a gay guy, I was just being thorough in order to avoid any unwanted responses. Thanks for your well thought out responses. |
