|
|
| I realize I may look foolish by asking this, but are there any laws to protect employees from a hostile workplace environment? Or do they not exist? (However, I would rather look stupid than do stupid actions.) What rights do I have as an employee in Korea? I would appreciate any information you have. Thanks! |

I have this one co-worker. She is extremely rude and asks very belittling questions. One time, I couldn't see the plug on one of the vacuum cleaners because I'm 6'1", then she asks in a mean tone of voice, "Do you not have eyes?" She's done it more than once!. She asks me very belittling questions in front of my students. She blows things way out of proportion. Can I go to the Labor Board? Or do I have to talk to a lawyer?
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated! Thanks! |

| You should undoubtedly retain a lawyer to take on your case. But seriously man- grow a thicker skin. Hostile work environment? You would be laughed right out of Korea if you pursued this legally. Either ignore it or give it right back to you co-teacher. Go nuclear. Shame her in front of the kids about her poor English. |

| sorry to say, but i think you're out of luck (hope i'm wrong). just take satisfaction in knowing that she's likely much worse to herself than she is to others. she sounds like she rides a broom to work. |

I think in any jurisdiction you wouldn't have a case unless the harassment was of a racial nature or that the insults were so humiliating and offensive , that you had no other choice but to leave your job. The example yous said doesn't sound like either to me.
It sounds like you just work with a bitch. We all work with bitches. As others have said you just have to grow thicker skin. |

If there were laws against that kind of behavior in this country, the courts could be open around the clock and it would still take months to hear a case.
The Korean way is to ignore it until you explode or have a mental breakdown. |

If you want korean "management" to the right thing you have to put a bomb under them. |

directly confront her telling her how it upsets you and be cordial and nice. if that fails and if it were me then i'd fight fire with fire and she'd have hell to pay. she'd have a mental onslaught unlike any she'd ever experienced.
but try and be nice first. |

Yeah, I like to skip the ignoring part and cut straight to the explosion. It still amazes me that acting like a child and throwing a tantrum at work gets good results around here. |

You cannot go to the Labour Board for that kind of (silly) thing. Getting a lawyer is also way out of proportion considering this seems to be ONE co-worker.
Bascially you seem to be DISLIKED by a co-worker. This happens, its called human interaction and it sometimes does not go well.
So, tell this co-worker you do not like her attitude and move on. Do this politely and be clear. |

I'm sure the Korean supreme court would make this a priority, call a lawyer and build an air tight case.
seriously
