Japan is probably the most like Korea--but you'd not make enough to send home...

Not true. I have friends in Japan saving over $2,000 per month. The Japanese currency is strong right now. (And the South Korean currency is weak.)

Well, thanks for the replies so far. I've just been well informed about the negativity on dave's esl forum boards hence the first couple of replies in this thread. (I leave it at that)

My Korean fam is getting me up-to-date on the work side, so no further assistance is needed there. Thanks, anyway.

However, I am still up to discuss teaching in different countries besides Korea. I am really eyeing China and Japan. I have visited Japan for almost a month last March so I know what it's like there, kinda. I've also been in the Philippines for a month and a half, so I kinda know there too. Never been to Thailand or China just yet.

What I want to get out the experience... (not referring to Korea) Basically, have a good time and save IF at all possible but definitely not mandatory. I plan on using my GI bill soon so I really don't plan on staying more than a couple of months. (at least, that is my plan for now)

My original plan was to WWOOF in these countries but then a friend of mine encouraged me to teach there for a bit just to see what it was like. I have only now just decided to consider this after friends of mine mentioning it to me from time to time for the last two years. "Never know, you might like it" is what they always say. Who knows, they might be right.
