I'm thinking about going there over Thanksgiving time, November 24-27ish. So I've done a little bit of research.
From everything I've seen, it looks like quite a worthwhile trip. Not sure what the weather is like this time of year, but it does look beautiful.
Best way to get there from Seoul would probably go to Mukho port which is in DongHae on the east coast. I think it's a 3 hr bus ride from Seoul. Ferry's leave fairly early, so you'd want to get there the night before.
Or, you can leave to Ulleungdo from Pohang's port as well. There are specials on KTX where you save 30% by booking the train and ferry at the same time. Get a Korean friend to help you book it. You take like a 5:30am train to ShinGyeongju, get a bus to Pohang, and get the ferry. It's all timed out for it to work time wise.
You can book just the ferry at daea.com (again, all in Korean).
Cheap accomodation is available. Tons of Minbaks, from what I've heard that are typically from $30-50 a night where the ferry drops you off.
There is also a newish hostel/guesthouse as well called "Attack Camp" (seriously, that's the name) which has a facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Attack-Camp-Ulleungdo-Guesthouse/192359974150124
They charge anywhere from $10-30 a night.
Best of luck and let me know if you have any other questions. |
