The Wire. It's quite possibly the best show ever made for TV.

Second The Wire. Sopranos goes without saying. Brotherhood, Louie, The Shield, Damages, Shameless are all good.

I'm doing the same thing... but i'd recommend Six Feet Under. Also, i'm enjoying a few retro shows now a days too: Miami Vice, NYPD Blue, and Wonder Years.

Brotherhood was a good one not a lot of people watched. Can be a bit depressing but still a great organized crime show.

Terriers was awesome but got cancelled before its time.

Parks and Rec I think has really hit its stride. Ron Swanson is amazing.

I know this isn't for everyone but the return of Beavis and Butthead this last week was magic for me. Profundity through stupidity at its best.

Try 'Castle', if you like Nathan Fillion's charm.

No!
don't watch it, no good can come from watching it.
It was cancelled and it ain't coming back, so either you'll not like it in which case you won't want to watch it. Or worse, you'll really like, possibly love it, and f'en hate the fact that it just ends without tying anything up. It really pissed me off, because it was a pretty good show and I was enjoying it, plus Robert Carlyle is always awesome.

Six Feet Under and The Wire. Freaks and Geeks is pretty good as well (directed/produced by the same guy who brought us 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, etc.). Other than that it looks like you've got most of your bases covered, though I like to keep some Seinfeld around as background noise.

On edit: I can't believe you haven't watched The Sopranos, I just assumed it was on your initial list.

Oz is also definitely worth watching, though it's intense.

On top of the Sopranos and The Wire (both unmissable) I'd like to add

'Dead Like Me.'

Oh and 'Boardwalk Empire.'

Oh and 'Entourage' was shallow, stupid but oh so fun.

Watched all of it, loved it, was pissed that it got canceled, but the OP already has Carnival on his list, another show that did the same thing, and left you hanging in a MUCH worse way than SGU.

I am a sci-fi junkie.

Oh, add Misfits (UK show) to the list. Give it pas the 1st ep, and it's hilarious.
