Is this your first job/year in korea?
Il let you on a little secret, koreans can be brutally honest or downright mean about it and not think twice about it. I had a teacher scoff at me because i didnt do something to his liking and you know what i said to him? "HEY you got a problem, say it to me like a man, dont scoff at me in a womanly way" Of course this was in front of other teachers so he lost face (something koreans CHERISH) and got pissed off and walked away.
ya gotta learn how to take things, if i saw you i might be like "dang giant cant you see up there with the clouds" or something like that. If you told your teachers i said that and you were upset, they would laugh at you. Seek revenge lol |

But only to those they see as inferior. A Korean, no matter how nasty this particular person may generally be, wouldn't be caught dead asking a superior something like "Do you not have eyes?" |

OP didn't say this woman was Korean, and she seems a lot like one of my foreign coworkers. While Koreans certainly can be brutally honest, they don't have a monopoly on obnoxious outbursts. |

Wow.Sensitive much? Please say you are female, though at 6'1" I doubt it. Someone even contemplating going to a labor board for a minor comment like that just blows me away. On the Korean rude-o-meter that only scores about a 2.5.
Try this: look her in the eyes, don't smile, and say "Hey, don't talk to me like that." Rinse and repeat. She'll get it. Some never learned proper manners and the language barrier could be an issue too (though not the main issue). She's being rude because she can. Don't let her. |

Wow. It looks like some of you have never had a job before. I would exchange work war stories with my co-workers about our boss at a law firm. He'd blow a gasket over the smallest things. Once I was walking by his office and he called me in. Then he insulted me for a good 15 minutes over the fact that I did not come into his office with a writing pad and pencil. He was literally frothing at the corners of his mouth with spittle flying everywhere. Said I was unprepared and thoughtless; never mind the fact that I was merely walking by his office when he called me in.
One of the secretaries once told opposing counsel that our boss was out to lunch and couldn't take the call. Unbeknownst to her, apparently he had lied to the opposing counsel and said that he was out of town and couldn't make a court appointment. So when he found out that the secretary accidentally told the truth and contradicted him, he took a large stapler and threw it at her head. He missed, but she showed me the dent in the wall by her computer. He cussed her out for what seemed like an eternity, using language that would make Andrew Dice Clay blush. F'ning c--t this, stupid b---h that. All at a yelling voice that people two doors down could easily hear. Now that was a hostile workplace. |

OP, in these situations you must think on your feet and use your humor.
You could have replied, "Yes, I see it, but I was only testing you. Because I think your eyes (eyesight) are not good. Your eyes jump from side to side always."
Then an unflattering rendition of her eyes darting about. Keep the 'joke' in being for a day or two.
Make sure that everytime she gives it to you, she gets back with interest.
Be patient and get even. Sooner or later in front of people who count, she's going to make an English blupse. In loud voice you hasten to correct. Students can be used for this in the interim, until someone more eligible comes along and ups the ante.
She'll hate you, but you don't score high with her already, so nothing to lose. |
