i have a friend that will be visiting from the States next week and was wondering if she could get a short term (2-3 months) teaching gig while she was here. does she need a certain type of teaching visa?

She could do a winter camp, but might need to get documents. Better to talk to recruiters and ask them. They will have offers.

Short answer would be no, not legal work (no time to process a visa) - she would need to jump through the same hoops as any other E2 applicant (even for short term, legal work at a camp).

Longer answer would be yes, with the caveat that it wouldn't be legal work and there are risks including but not limited to: arrest, fines, detention and removal.

This would be different from those who come from countries that have reciprocal agreements with Korea (Aus and CAN) and allow H1 (working holiday) visas. This visa class would allow many different types of work (except teaching or working in a bar) on a part-time basis or short-term, full time. The US is not on the list.
