6 months or less from date of issue when it lands on the desk at Korean Immigration and you are good to go.

6 months + 1 day and you will need a new one.

Does the 6-month rule also apply for when transferring visas? I may be switching my E-2via over in December. Will I need a new one, or will they assume I haven't committed any more crimes at home during the year since I had my last one done up?

Only if you have been in country over 5 years as of Jan 2010 and have not left Korea for over 3 months during that period and your last crc was nationwide.

Otherwise you'll need a new crc.
