Only...it was not inadvertent at all. As he said you misread my post. I was NOT saying foreigners are on the same level as a street beggar. You are perceived as an easy target, like them. I was simply refuting the contention that no Korean adult would ever be treated like that. |

Final word -- I've taught in Korea, I know how Koreans behave and it's no worse than what any substitute teacher has to put up with here. Teaching is hard, and something like 90% of teachers say classroom management is their number one challenge.
Kids on the street are not relevant to you, ignore them if they bother you. However if kids in your classroom are calling you names or throwing temper tanterums, its' because you're letting them do that. Maybe you say your hands are tied because of your bosses complicity, and there could be some truth in that, but that doesn't take away from that you are letting the students act the way they are acting. Classroom management is not about being creative with your "punishment", it's about being proactive. It's about setting clear expectations and consequences for not meeting those expectations. It's creating an environment that is conducive to learning. It's the little things, like knowing your students names and showing you care about them by asking them (genuinely) how their day is going or how they did on their taekwondo belt test on the weekend. I think if some of you soul-searched just a little bit you would probably realize you could manage your classroom better. But it's easier to blame your students, isn't it..it must be an ingrained cultural trait. |

This thread sucks!
I saw 17 pages and thought to myself "ooh, 17 pages of stories about kids doing dumb stuff in and out of class, thisll be a great time killer!"
Instead its just dudes arguing about whether korean kids have longer intestines or something than canadian kids. :/
Dear internet. You really have lost yoru sense of wonder and fun at the world.
Cant we have more stories of NETs looking on in sheer wonder that a kid is running around the classroom with scissors without it turning into some kind fo culture war. Kids are kids, they do some of the stupidest short termist self absorbed stuff youll ever see. Its a DELIGHT!!! and instead we have the whole "SOMEONES WRONG ON THE INTERNET!!!" thing 
Come on, we've done this a million billion times, cant we just not rise to it once in a while and instead just quietly snigger amongst each other about the dumb stuff they do, whether its in korea, japan, sweden, papua new guinea, the UK, the US, brazil, nigeria, australia, russia, or wherever it is, kids do stupid stuff. I ADORE kids. I like the way they march into dumb things both feet first only to fall ion tehir ass, then dust themselves up to do it all over again |
