Occupy Oakland: inspiration, frustration at return
| Quote: |
In a matter of weeks, Oakland has welcomed campers at Frank Ogawa Plaza, warned them to leave, forcibly removed them, blocked their return and then allowed them to retake the grounds.
"It seems like every other day has a new set of rules," said Greg McConnell, president of the Jobs and Housing Coalition, which represents the city's largest companies. |
Oakland's government=bunch of ass clowns. So you go in, clean up the mess (that reportedly cost $1 million), then put the smack down to ensure people don't do it again, get lambasted in the media for being overly harsh, so then you let them camp again. What a bunch of crap. So basically Oakland's image gets even worse (who knew that was even possible), and for what? Nothing. |

General Strike in Oakland today
| Quote: |
OAKLAND -- Several businesses, including the Men's Wearhouse and the Grand Lake Theater closed their doors Wednesday in support of today's planned General Strike as thousands of people are expected to join the Occupy Oakland movement to protest the inequality of wealth and power.
The UC office of the President is also closed today over concerns that BART might be shut down at some point and more than 1,000 people who work in the building wouldn't be able to get to or from work.
The Occupy Oakland camp got the rally going before 8:30 a.m., putting together signs and pumping music from speakers outfitted to a truck that will serve as a rolling platform. The first scheduled mass-gathering takes place at Frank Ogawa Plaza at 9 a.m. followed by a march on financial institutions. |

You love fascism? A state for the people assaulting the people they are supposed to server in order to protect the interests of an elite and corrupt few. Yeah that's really funny stuff. |

fascism?fascism?fascism?fascism?!!!!
Less lamentation of the women.
More of my enemies driven before me.
btw. The police only got forceful once the jackasses started destroying property. Things were fine when they were just doing their happy little chants. Then they got violent. That's what we're enjoying watching on the news, people who are destroying other people's property getting laid out. |

Ha ha, "my husband." What exactly was she doing?
Just goes to show you how dependent the self-reliants actually are.
The "53%" are too dumb to understand that Wall Street perpetrated crimes . . . that cost THEM money. Yes, the public bailouts were federally funded. (The hidden $16 trillion bailouts are costing everyone . . . in the form of inflation). |

See, if there was that context in the picture it would be different, but to take joy in the state apparatus assaulting citizens as they protect private vested interest while people with strong nationalist feelings cheer them on is, almost literally by definition, fascism. It's particularly given that the police have a bad record of attacking, and yes pepper spray and tear gas are attacks, peaceful people. Given that those same police are financially backed by the financial firms that are being protested it's absurd to a normal person would choose the "hippies" for their enemies. It's also equally absurd to pick something as corrupt as a big city police force as hero's. Were the NYPD hippies when they were protesting their rights to be corrupt? The outright and vocal support for the cops who were tried for ticket fixing and planting drugs on innocent people was one of the most disgusting things I've seen lately, not to mention that the cops pushed camera men, acted like thugs, and insulted people waiting in line to pick up benefits near by. |

This is stupidity at its highest. The core message isn't protesting capitalism itself, or even corporations, it's protesting fraud going unpunished and the influence of big money in politics. How anyone can be for fraud and bought and paid politicians is beyond me, but hey lets go and beat some hippies up. |

There are a fair number of frustrated conservatives out there who are full of pent-up rage and can't take it out on their traditional victims. They used to be able to beat up blacks, Latinos, women, hippies, and gays. And I'm not using 'beat up' figuratively. The blacks, Latinos, women, and gays all started fighting back. Hippies are all they have left.
I'm just waiting for the first Baby Boomer hate-crime fatality where the old geezer was beaten to death with a money belt (or run over by a Ferrari) when he was cashing in his Social Security check. [Heaven preserve a Boomer hippie.] It's only a matter of time. |

Psssst! Hey, you hippie-bashers:
Your RED NECKS are showing.
Growing up, it gradually became un-cool to stereotype people of color, then more or less at the same time, it became un-cool to stereotype women and hippies. Obviously, conservatives refused to accept delivery of the memo.
Even though conservatives seized control of the levers of power, they were not able to turn back the clock to when it was A-OK to disparage people with more melanin, they never did get over the idea of women having equal rights, although Mr. Cain would seem to disagree. From years of reading this board, it would seem that the red necks never did adjust to having hippies around either. |
