NO! that is NOT the only tip I need. but thanks anyway. You can keep your oh so helpful tips to yourself next time. Thanks |
Sorry. that's the only tip I have needed, and I've been working at universities for years. |

Networking here (on daves or the internet) won't help much. I (as but one example) wouldn't hire anyone from here (while they are abroad) for a uni post and ALL of the decent positions that I am aware of require you to interview here at your expense (unless of course you are a published PhD - in which case they would have been looking for you rather than the other way around).

Myself and two others were hired from abroad for what I would consider "decent" university language center positions (2.7m for 14 hours/wk, with 16-18 weeks vacation at a top university, optional overtime at 40k). None of us had phd's or relevant publications...myself and I know at least one of the others had graduate degrees, but not in ESL. It was basically luck of the draw...granted this was over 3 years ago, and I know that even since then things have gotten tougher, but it never hurts to take a shot, especially since the OP seems to be more qualified than I was. |

Sorry...it is a very good tip, one that emphasizes "get out and determine your own destiny" and I appreciate it but also was looking (and finding) more info.. my posting here and looking for help is all part of my process of "going out and getting it"
That said I have got my documents ready and and heading out to Korea soon. I live in Bangkok and luckily you can find tickets semi-reasonable. |

By the way my first post in this thread was more directed at the person who used the expression land a job, which along with gig have to be the most annoying terms commonly used when talking about jobs here. |

Don't know about that, I sent in a resume and I didn't even interview they called me and said you can have the job, it depends on your experience and qualifications. |

The question you have to ask yourself is what do you have they want?
Most people go for MA's in TESOL, if you have experience outside of teaching English such as business administration, accounting and have an MA in that subject it is much easier to get a job.
