Sigmund freud wrote a book ( I cant remember the title, it may be 'beyond good and evil'), i think it was about a perfect person which he called an 'overman' or 'superman'. This later went on to become someone elses version of a perfect race of people with blonde hair and blue eyes...
Hope that helps |

le-paul, I think you meant to discuss Nietzsche rather than Freud (though it is true that Freud was influenced by Nietzsche and there is a bit of discussion on those ideas in some of Freud's work). The title of the book you are thinking of is Thus Spoke Zarathustra and it was written by Nietzsche. Even then, the concept originates earlier than Nietzsche's work. I'm still not sure what that has to do with anything. |

yes, i did mean Nietzsche, Not Freud. Thanks.
I was imagining the next great thing in cosmetic surgery in korea (along with perfect teeth, slim nose bridges and big breasts) as everyone having blonde hair and blue eyes.
I think koreans will love this new laser eye surgery idea, its maybe the next step from tattooing your eyelids.
I had 2, 10 year old students yesterday in my backwater classroom shoving green contact lenses into their eyes to make themselves look prettier. It made me think about that article in the newspaper and where it will end.
What are peoples idea of a cosmetically perfect person when they are doing this.
It saddens me quite frankly. |

If you ever watch TV here, celebrities have been using blue contacts for years now. |

So I'll ask; why focus on Koreans? Are Koreans the only ones who get plastic surgery? Are they well known for wearing colored contact lenses?
Body manipulation/surgery is not a Korean monopoly, so why the focus on them in this post? Why not just say - hey, check out this new procedure! |

because i live in korea so most things i do tend to focus on that, especially my daily observations.
Besides, I lived in a few other countries and they dont seem to be so obsessed with cosmetic surgery. |

Really? Obsessed?
I can count the number of Canadians I know that have gotten boob jobs and such. And I can guess that Americans also go under the knife fairly often.
This thread smells of you trolling. Calling out Koreans as wanting to be some sort of Nietzsche Superman or something... Where as the actual number of Koreans walking around with blue eyed contacts is almost non existent.

Exactly. I can count the number of Americans I know who've gone under the knife.
I can't count the number of Koreans I've met who have, even if its something minor as eyelid surgery. They're also, on average, much younger when they do it.
Other than boob jobs, I'd say most plastic surgery in America falls under the anti-aging category, rather than the "change my appearance" kind that's prevalent in Korea.
I still say there's more in Korea, and this is someone coming from southern California. Plenty of "breast augmentation" going on at the beaches, for sure. |

Yet the story in the OP has almost nothing to do with Korea. Look at the location and nationalities in the article? Where's the Korean connection?
And having lived in Korea for 10 years now, I personally think that the "abuse of plastic surgery" is often overstated on this forum. You say that in the West, it's about anti-aging? Seriously? It's got nothing to do with anti-aging, it's about looking a certain way. Looking different than the body does naturally.
And to be clear, I meant to say that I can't count the number of Canadians I know that have gotten their boobs done. I worked in the clubs back home, and was surrounded by 'em. |

You'll see Canadians and Americans with natural large breasts. How many Koreans do you see with natural blue eyes? |

I am going to disagree with CC. I can't think of a single friend who has had plastic surgery back home that wasn't reconstructive or health related (I am referring to breast reduction, I think that counts?) where as here I know have more students than I can count have the eye surgery and older friends have numerous differ types of surgery. I have a plastic surgeon friend who tells me he makes his living on the eye surgeries. I have had plenty of friends joke about boob jobs, face lifts, ect. Koreans are dead serious. I know its ancedotal but I have to believe Korea kills the US on per capita plastic surgery. Maybe its because I am a small town midwestern guy. I know those out west and east love the stuff. |

Someone is posting about Korean in a KOREA forum. Oh no, call the cops.
Let's make all of our posts in KOREAN forums be about Spanish people from now on mkay? Or the odd German, but only once out of ten posts!
Almost every K girl in their twenties I've ever talked to is considering or wants PS, so not sure which Korea you live in Craptain. And BTW, FTR, I make zero value judgment on getting PS or not getting it (unlike you do, it seems - you seem to view it as a slanderous insult to say that Koreans get a lot of PS when it is a fact Korea is the PS capital of Asia).
