Nope not really. According to this article the US has about five times the number of plastic surgeries. Granted it also has about six times the population meaning that Korea is slightly larger per capita but that is by no means equating to "kills" But now demand has fallen by as much as an estimated 40% meaning the U.S is now ahead.
Also the article goes on to say that the rate is falling and many clinics are expected to close due to lack of demand. 20 some have already closed. Also many clinics say that 20-30 % of clients are foreigners.

[Someone is posting about Korean in a KOREA forum. Oh no, call the cops.

Actually no...the article the OP posted about had absolutely NOTHING to do with Korea.
But keep trying...even a broken clock is right twice a day. |

| Um...the poster was asking the question of how long until this surgery will become commonplace in Korea. Most people clearly understood that as the premise of the thread. |

Yes I know. But the global economy has not recovered, which makes it likely that rates have fallen even further. In FW's article (2011) about 20% of women in Seoul said they had had plastic surgery...whereas before the downturn 30% of Korean women said they had had plastic surgery. |

I should think that "Most people" would also clearly understand that this is an impossible question to answer as it requires looking into the future.
Which makes the question smack of trolling as already said. |

| So by your definition then a question such as which is the best restaurant or cafe would be trolling because there cannot by definition be a definitive one answer. |

There would be a subjective answer based on certain criteria (service, food, atmosphere) which people could then assign different weights to in order to assess such a claim.
But a subjective answer is very different from an answer which is IMPOSSIBLE to give.
Plus a question about the best restaurant/cafe asks for an opinion which everyone is entitled to give based on personal experience, whereas an answer about how long a certain surgical procedure will take to be accepted widely in Korea will be based on pure guesswork.
Apples and oranges.
Also given the jibe in the title about the Korean SUPERMAN )even though the article said nothing about Korea) is why it is trollish. |

I can assure you my intention was not to Troll.
I am just in awe of/concerned how socially acceptable it seems to be becoming here to have cosmetic surgery - and how quickly this turnaround has taken place.
I thought when I read this article that this would maybe become the next thing here on the way to becoming 'beautiful/perfect' (whatever that is).
In Europe cosmetic surgery isnt massively commonplace, so its still a little shocking to see people getting corrective nose surgery for example - especially when theres nothing really wrong with their nose.
The article didnt mention korea but as my recent experience of observing a society with a seemingly large population of people from a specific generation who seem to think that cosmetic surgery is acceptable, i thought it fitting to place it on this forum.
It is a korean forum and i think that koreans have a lot of cosmetic surgery and I live in korea and i think that korean surgeons will capitalise on pigment surgery in the future helping people to superficially look better (re article and jibe).
I dont think thats trolling.
When I saw an 11 year old girl sticking contacts in her eyes to change their colour and her parents have bought them for her, i thought there was something very wrong with that (that is one example). Especially if you consider that in context, a lot of teenage/high school girls arent even allowed to wear their hair long or wear earrings in korea.
i suppose if youve grown up with this this, then its not really that shocking to witness or unusual.
I havent but my children may and i dont like it... |
